Because Golovkin is a victim of his own success. He is so good he makes ex-champs look average. Then when they look average the casual fan declares GGG hasn't fought anyone. A lot of these guys just DKSAB. Even Monroe is a very good fighter. He just ran into something special.

 

Because that type of talent only comes around every 10 years or so. It would be nice if he could be fighting Hearns, Hagler type fighters.

But that quality isn't around at MW today.

GG caught them after their best. Those guys were solid at one time, not anymore.

 

This is what happened with Mayweather Jr. Everytime he outclassed someone in the ring, his opponent was written off. Before the Mosley fight, more than half of ESB said he would lose. Pre-Canelo, same thing. Pacquaio: even boxing experts (some of them) were favouring Pacman.

I'm not saying each and every one of these guys was prime (Mosley, Oscar), but they were considered 50-50 fights at least before Round 1.

Also, I'm not comparing their resumes either (Macklin and Murray are not Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya), but simply the point that the outcome of the fight results in people playing down the victory.

Apparently knocking someone out with brutal punching isn't nearly as good as winning a decision with cautious boxing.

I agree with you. The only problem I see in Golovkin's last 2 fights is he has taken some punches he didn't need to take. He basically said, go ahead, take your best shot. I'm not going anywhere. He can't do that against a real banger. Even if he can take the shots they take their toll on any man. He needs to drop the machismo and get back to business. But we all know he is doing it to entice the public and other fighters.

I know rubio quit but i still think he is one of the best GGG fought. Really underrated guy.
