Anybody can see that he can really box if he has to. His power is what puts him over the top. But I would argue that his power is also a function of his boxing skill ... setting up the shots and placing them right. That liver shot is a thing of beauty. I think he'd probably still be unbeaten, albeit with a lot less KO's to his name.

 

If you take away his power, he wouldn't be an elite fighter.

But the same can be said for almost all hard-hitters - once you establish you have that power, your entire boxing style is moulded around it. Even at amateur level.

 

In fairness there is no way to prove exactly what Ggg record Is an amateur I have heard 8 loses etc at international level, I am supposed to believe he went undefeated from novice level all the way through to elite level? Maybe true but I take amateur record with a pinch of salt.

Either way what he achieved as amateur speaks for it self in terms of his boxing skills.

Great at cutting off the ring, for a offense first approach he really doesn't get hit flush all that often, has a good jab, has great body work, effective with both hands, sets up his shots well, counters well, can take one to give one, takes a great punch, well conditioned

Not if he fought the same way, his style is based around him being a power puncher, if he didn't have it he'd have to change the way he fights.

 

The first Monroe KD was beautiful. He had him up against the ropes and really studied where to plant him. Monroe did real well to recover from that as he was practically out on his feet

 

Impossible to say really, I mean he certainly wouldn't be a world class fighter, because you are taking away his main tool... but he could probably still be in the mix somewhere

 

His opponents are normally in survival mode because of his power so perhaps not as much but he still has the tools to be very good.

 

I think he'd still be where he's at but like other's have said, his fights are easy because his opponents go into survival mode.

 

It may sound strange, but if we take away GGG power (which means, make it just average), he would still have high KO percentage. He is one of the best I ever seen in cutting angles, he has a good timing and underrated defense. Lateral movement does not work well against him, and he will lean you against the ropes and catch you sooner or later.

Earlier I favoured Lara to beat Golovkin. After how easily GGG handled Monroe, a guy with somewhat similar styles to Lara, I believe Golovkin would be too much for Erislandi, though it would be a tough call for Golovkin as well.

Now, I also believe, that stylistically only a fighter who would be able to back Golovkin up and make him respect this fighter's power. Though Golovkin has a good chin, noone likes getting hit right on the chin, and one's Golovkin finds himself under pressure and fighting on the back foot, that's when he will look vulnerable. Other question is that now I don't see any fighter capable of doing so.
