Please Geale, Do NOT FLuck-up the Canelo/Cotto fight.

Please Geale, do it!

 

A lot of people are under rating Cotto's performance versus Martinez, you will see Cotto will bust up Geale by 7 rounds.

 

His only chance to win is by KO the judges will score any remotely close round for Cotto. Cotto is too experience to get knocked out against feather fisted fighter like Geale. And come on Geale is coming of a devastating KO loss, Cotto out of one of his best performances. I think that Cotto will brake him down late. And even if Cotto loses somehow he can still say the hell I'm not a MW go down to JMW and fight Canelo.

 

Indeed there is a subtle conflict in boxing. On one hand boxing fans want "the best to fight the best", but in the other hand we want the sport to succeed and sometimes this causes conflict with the former feeling.

We want the best fighters to win, but really this is not always a good thing for the sport. A Geale victory would hurt the sport. It ruin any chance of Cotto-Floyd 2, Cotto-GGG, or even Cotto-Canelo. Cotto is the only real Puerto Rican fighter who can bring in large fans from his country. His defeat will probably lead to irrelevence and retirement, leaving Puerto Rico without any big fighter for some time (Verdejo is still years away from becoming big). And this is not entirely just happening to PR.

A good example is the current invasion of all these former soviet era fighters. I like them all...Provodnikov, GGG, Kovalev, and Lomachenko. BUT lets not forget that the US typically doesn't really make stars out of foreign fighters. Their success may lead to the decline of interest in boxing here in the States.

Same goes for Canelo. At this point boxing needs his career to succeed. If he were to get defeated and lose his fans, it would leave Mexico without a real strong champion to root for. Which would surely lead to a strong decline in boxing interest in the US.

 

I think Geale will put up a great fight and maybe win it. One thing is for sure, after this fight there is no way Cotto goes anywhere near GGG.

People have too much faith in him getting over a lose to fight Canelo. There is ZERO guarantee that a fight with Canelo would be lucrative if he were to lose. A lot of fans don't give think about weight divisions when they watch a fight, and I doubt the PR will take note either. Although they will know is that Cotto got defeated and will probably be hesitant to support him for Canelo...given that he would almost certainly lose at that point.

 

Please Geale, completely obliterate the Cotto/Canelo fight.

"lineal champs" that do not defend their titles vs the best and act like champs are bad for boxing. Please crush DIVA , and clean out the Cottoweight division, for the sake of the sport.

 

Geale shouldn't be a threat for Cotto to be honest. He's a good boxer, but not a great, and he doesn't possess the sort of power to make Cotto shaky.

Cotto is A- level. Geale is B+.

 

I hope Geale does, or at least put up such a performance that many debate Cotto's win (that's what I think will happen)

 

Totally disagree, while a Cotto win does make the sport "bigger" that's only in the short term. All it really does it perpetuate the same vicious cycle of inactivity, cherrypicking, etc. So 10 years down the line we have Canelo holding the title hostage while younger, hungrier fighters are made to wait. If boxing is to thrive it should do so on its own merit i.e. the best fighting the best.

Besides if Cotto loses it doesn't stop a fight with Canelo, both still get a big payday and Cotto can retire a very rich man because let's be honest, that's all he wants at the moment. Cotto will retire before he fights GGG and Mayweather-Cotto doesn't hold much interest.

 

Short-term! And thats what boxing needs. Now that Floyd and Pac are soon gone, we need the new champions now. Boxing can't wait a whole decade for a new star.

And no sometimes the best fighting the best isn't too good for the sport. Look at the heavyweights with Klitschkos. They fought the best, they beat the best, and in the end the heavyweight division died in America. Yes Klitschko's are famous in Europe, which is good, but they dominated too much to the extent that it basically killed the sport here. What would happen if Wladimir decides to fight for several more years and easily beats Wilder or Fury (the next big Brits/Americans)? The heavyweights would continue to be dead.

And a Cotto lose could really hurt the Canelo fight, why don't people see that???? Cotto isn't loved unconditionally in PR, he's not anywhere near what Trinidad was. He's got their respect but he's lost plenty of his big fights and another one would surely hurt his support against Canelo. The PR vs Mex rivalry can be huge if both sides take the fight seriously. But how much faith will PR have with Cotto after they just saw him get outboxed by Geale?

 

Geale isn't flucking up anything, don't worry there.
