MVP of the day? I'm going Sasha, with Dmitry Bivol in 2nd place, and honorable mention to Drozd & Chakhkiev. :good

An old post of mine about Povetkin. He's a been severely underrated by many for a long time.

Indeed. But I'm not sure that Wilder's team won't vacate to get a shot at Wlad. He'll get starched by him too, but for more money. That's been the plan all along, imo.

I'd stick Kulakova in behind Chakhkiev. :yep

Charr and Leapai dead last (and 2nd-to-last), though, well below Kudryashov.

Got to put Drozd at 2 IMO

He completely outclassed a high level opponent with a solid record. Bivol looked sensational, but it was against a lower level fighter with double digit losses

True, but I got the feeling Drozd could have stepped on the gas pedal and ended that earlier. Bivol wasted nothing.

Or maybe what messed with his mind was being a lazy **** who got himself kicked out of his gym.

    So?

He pretty much only complemented Perez in that clip anyways...

All of Perez's fans were claiming he was the best they've ever seen physically and was apparently very focused and determined.

Your youtube clip doesn't magically change any of what several people have been saying all week.

He said he didn't want to train Perez because he came to camp late, and he didn't want his poor performance against Povetkin (which was his prediction at the time) to reflect poorly on him and his gym. How in the world is that complimentary?

I'm taking away NOTHING from Povetkin, dude has revived his career and currently looks like the best HW on the planet (yes I'm including Wlad), but why are we pretending like being kicked out of your gym last second before the biggest fight in your career is not a hindrance?

Perez had a full training camp, just not with Garcia. He didn't get kicked out of the gym "last second."

Garcia said he was good, very skilled, good power, and said that had he contacted him to train him that he'd be in Russia in his corner because he said that he knows they would have a nice chance to beat Povetkin, who Garcia tried to pass off as average-ish and aging.

Do you know that Janik received an offer to fight Drozd 12 days ago?!?!? He didn't have a chance to prepare.

The hugging robbed Mr. Klitschko himself of a knockout win.

During his time as the WBA "regular" World heavyweight champion, I always thought Povetkin was a joke. The WBA “regular” title became vacant following the Klitschko vs Haye fight, and he beat Chagaev for that vacated paper title. His four title defenses were against Boswell, Huck, a physically lame Rahman who visibly limped during his ringwalk, and the crude and utterly undeserving Wawrzyk. Only the Huck fight was compelling, and even then, Povetkin badly gassed in the second half of the fight, and needed all the help he got from referee Pabon to win a highly debatable decision. I was very happy when Klitschko finally beat him to "unify" the WBA titles, despite the horrendous nature of the fight. But since then, it seems not having a world title of any kind has lit a fire under Povetkin's backside. His three fights since Klitschko (Charr, Takam, and now today Perez) have all been against FAR better opponents than he ever defended his title against, bar Klitschko, and he has looked FANTASTIC in all of them. He has been in great physical shape (even today, fighting at his career-high weight of 232 pounds), well-conditioned, fluid in his movements, and legitimately powerful, whether in combinations such as the 6-punch combination that KO'd Charr, or in single punches such as the one right hand that rocked Perez today and basically ended that fight. Povetkin is clearly the second-best heavyweight in the world today, and his stock has NEVER been higher. He is now the official WBC mandatory for Wilder, and IF that fight ever comes off, I would bet on Povetkin, in which case a Klitschko vs Povetkin rematch would be HUGELY exciting, because of the prospect of them fighting with a competent referee in charge, because of the strides Povetkin has made, and because it would finally unify all four major alphabet titles. So much to look forward to, and hopefully it all happens!!!
