I disagree that he is already a hall of famer. But if he beats Wilder I think he will have a case. His resume is very solid- decorated amateur - and as a pro has wins over top ten opponents at the time he fought them in Byrd, Chambers, Chagaev, Takam, Perez. If he adds Wilder it will be interesting. If he then by some chance defeated Wlad his legacy would grow exponentially.
The Perez ko is a false confidence boost for Potvekin. Perez was clearly undertrained and unmotivated. A simple arm punch from Potvekin had him all but out.

Wilder has a chance against Povetkin. I mean he is 5 inches taller with a great reach advantage. He has some physical advantages for certain plus he is younger. Povetkin struggled against Wlad, who is much better than Wilder but I don't think it will be easy for him as many posters feel. Is he more skilled than Wilder yes and has he fought better fighters yes by a long shot but it's still a good fight. And I think they will fight. Wilder can't vacate if he does there is no reason for Wlad to fight him. Wlad only wants that belt. Plus he'll make millions fighting Povetkin he would be idiot to let millions and belt go. This is not Quillan.
damn alot of respect to wilder if he acually takes this fight. This means he isn't really a paper titlist but a true competitor and acually wants to fight the best regardless of what his handlers would want him to. If this fight happen I would acually start to belive the heayvweight scene is intresting again with youngblood trying to see who is the best out there. Make it happen!
Well I wouldn't give him too much respect if he takes this fight. It's his mandatory. He has to fight him or vacate his title. Believe me he would never fight Povetkin as a voluntary. However if he defeats Povetkin to go with his win over Stiverne I think it will silence his critics and show he is legit champion. He still never deserved his title shot in the first place
Huck is borderline ATG and he was a cruiser testing the waters at heavy. It's a very good win. Not a great win. Byrd is not an ATG borderline hof fighter but not one in my opinion. Again a very good win but not a great win. Very impressive though that Povetkin fought him in just his 13th pro fight. Goes to show you the difference between him and Wilder. Wilder still doesn't have a single win as good as that win and he is in his 33rd pro fight. Actually 34 counting Molina.
Byrd had been shot to bits for years. He was fully washed up against Povetkin. He lost to a no name LHW in his next fight. Not impressive at all really if you had seen Byrds 7 previous bouts.
Byrd lost the following fight because he cut too much weight to try and fight at light heavy again. That happens to older fighters the body just doesn't take to it as well when young. Look at De La Hoya vs Paquaio or Roy Jones dropping back to light heavy vs everyone. As for Byrds previous 7 fights he fought Holyfield (W) fres Oquendo (w) Golota (d) jameel Mcline (w) davaryl Williamson (w) Wlad klitschko (L) and marrinuccio (w) Going into the Povetkin match. Hardly the resume of a "shot" fighter. Yes some of the wins were debatable and I believe he lost some of them but he was quite competitive in all of them except against Wlad of course. Showing he could still perform at world level. For Povetkin to come in and dominate in his 13th fight is a good win.
Nah, Byrd was finished and had the punch of a welter weight. He looked truly terrible in those fights and deserved to lose them all. Its on par with the Rahman victory.
