Took grove's best shots and last night eat all of Direll's best shots which you could see discouraged him psychologically throughout the fight knowing that he couldn't knock degale down. Credit to degale he proved he's the real deal and that he not can only box but can bang. When Ward and his trainer Virgania Hyena gets the ***** to start fighting some credible opponents he is gonna get his ass handed to him because sooner or later the pressure is going to mount on him to face a young hungry lion instead of sitting behind twitter telling the world he's too good to fight everyone
his chin is great, i've known that for some time... he fought one of the eastern european guys, can't remember who.... and got tagged with huge shots and just walked through them.... now the guy wasn't anything special but those punches would have seriously rocked most guys, his face got marked up but he never looked hurt at all...
Was thinking the same earlier. Took some good shots last night and wasn't fussed at all. Added some good ko wins to his resume recently and obviously dropped Dirrell too so the power is there. The future is bright, the future is Chunky
Let's not be too quick to call DeGale a steel jaw. Groves and Dirrell are pretty good punchers, so he definitely has a pretty good chin. However the hardest hitters at SMW have been Kessler and Froch, and DeGale hasn't fought them. When he fights someone who can hit that hard, I'll jump on the iron-chin bandwagon. Golovkin would be a good test in that regard too.
DeGale has fought someone that was able to drop Froch...something Kessler didn't do I don't think. DeGale has a good chin man.
DeGale has a solid chin, that has always been clear to me and yes I agree his power is under-rated. He isn't a huge puncher but he has enough power combined with speed to hurt most guys in the division if he lands clean.
He took Dirrell's shots very well. Even the shots he didn't see coming. Froch said Dirrell is a spiteful puncher. I've seen DeGale get hurt before by the Pole Wilczewski (in the 4th or 5th round IIRC) and I know Darren Sutherland (RIP) had him over in the amateurs as well. Rumour has it that Billy Joe Saunders knocked him out in sparring too but I don't know if there's any truth to that. From what I can gather Saunders at least dropped him if not that. In DeGale's defence Sutherland was a big puncher and he didn't go down against the Pole. I think he proved he has a good chin against Dirrell who let's not forget hurt Froch and against Groves, who dropped Froch hard. As for his power, well he blew out the never previously stopped Periban out in just three rounds, that's the same Periban who drew with Badou Jack, lost a MD to Bika, and who was on the wrong end of a close one to J'Leon Love in his previous outing. He also destroyed the undefeated and obviously never stopped Brandon Gonzales in just four rounds too. He dropped Dirrell hard and hurt him numerous times as well. Dirrell doesn't have the most sturdy beard though. Who knows DeGale might have even been able to stop him had Dirrell not had that extra 20-30 seconds to recover added on to the minute interval between the second and third rounds.
