Currently Povetkin is in great shape. He would be a competitive contender on any era.

I like his record - almost better than Lewis.

Povetkin ko's a fat Cuban, two other useless lumps eliminate themselves from credible contention,[ Charr and Leapai ,]and Wlad's legacy grows? Grows from defending against a fat Samoan who had no speed, no footwork no power,no conditioning and no skill, who was beat Charr,an arm puncher with only rudimentary boxing skills. Get the f*ck out of here. The only thing worse than Perez was the referee ,who was useless.

You made a blunder in your opening post.
Povetkin has never held a title in his life. The WBA stap he had is what Scott Quigg has now and nobody recognizes him as any world champ.

Some other guys he doesn't rank above:

    Buster Douglas
    Oliver MaCall
    Hasim Rahman
    Lamon Brewster
    Ray Mercer
    Shannon Briggs
    Michael Moorer
    Jimmy Young
    Ernie Shavers
    Frank Bruno
    Michael Spinks
    Tommy Morrison
    John Ruiz
    Pinklon Thomas
    Nikolai Valuev

He will if he beats Wilder and earns a real HW title.

One single performance doesn't make anyone ATG. Povetkin has a better resume than most of the guys listed.

It was a lovely move Sasha did in repositioning himself for that right which knocked Perez silly. Top performance, though also eye-catching was the overhang on the Cuban's shorts.

Povetkin was as tough as anything in his fight against Wladimir but opponent's must get into the habit of slugging away when he clamps on. They must set the tone and "punch to get out" as Richard steele would advise. If his clinches are so oppressive that they cancel in-fighting, then yes, points should be taken off more often.

As suggested, maybe Povetkin would fare better with a stricter ref. He's a solid heavyweight though top 40 is a stretch.

He be top 20 if thats the case.

Cuz....once he wins it, who's gonna take it from him in 3 yrs.

He'd easily rack up 6 title defenses, which is a solid standard for arguing the top 20 ATG list.

How many did Bowe have, and what was their quality.

Roided Evan Feilds and glass chin/ glass hear nobody, Golota. And ppl call him a top 20.:patsch:patsch:patsch

Top 40?, are you even serious?. His Olympic resume is definitely one of the greatest of all-time but his Professional resume sure as hell isn't. He was involved in one of the most comical Heavyweight Championship fights of all-time though against Wladimir.

Wilder doesn't have a "real" HW title. That belt is no more legit than unicorn's, mermaids and ufo abductions.

Yeah, he has a long way to go before he cracks to the top 40 or 50 all time. Standards have gotten so low in making these assessments. Next thing you know, people will be advocating for him to go into the HoF:patsch
