Not sure this fight is as much about Mitchell but Linares. I remember watching him many years ago breaking through v Oscar Larios and thinking that he was an immense talent. He has had a few slip ups over the years and maybe his chin is not the best. But he was boxing Anthony DeMarco's head off until he was cut horribly on his nose and his face was a complete mess. DeMarco got the stoppage in the tenth after landing flush blows. Linares was still on his feet a mile ahead on all scorecards. Next fight he was down in the first but looked a dodgy stoppage by the ringside doctor for a cut. Since that point he has won 7 straight (5 inside) picking up the WBC belt last time out. This guy has got immense skill and personally think he is the best boxer Mitchell has ever fought. It is probably a make or break fight for Linares as well. If this guy is on it, it could be a short night as he is a slick, ultra skillfull boxer with a punch. I also think Estrada made Mitchell look a million dollars. I don't think for one second that Linares would not have done that to him but quicker! Remember Mitchell was getting beaten by Maduma until he gassed and there are no form lines to show if he was actually any good or not.
This is by far his best chance he's had. Linares lost a few rounds to navarrete who also lost to Stephen smith. Sergio Thomson ko'd him. I fancy a Mitchell stoppage.
That last fight againts Maduma he looked terrible up until the stoppage and i honestly believe he sounds punch drunk but alot of people disagree. I would love to see him and Crolla go at it, if they both win
guessing as normal you can't get the fight unless you have a sky contract and can't just pay a one of fee?
Mitchell will knock Linares out, forget all this "focused" rubbish, forget the past, it's just Mitchell's time, it's happening, WBC Champion. I'm going in BOLD today.
Yes, that demolition job on Estrada was sublime. Even if Estrada was a come forward fighter and easy to outbox. Every punch landed, the man was landing with lead uppercuts and hooks, that's talent, he couldn't miss.
The talents there, he just needs to put everything together on the big stage.. which as of yet he hasn't. Hopefully this time round he can. Linares has all the skills in the book, I just hope Kev can plant one on his chin.
It wasn't a dodgy stoppage, he quit Theres nothing to suggest Javier Preto or anybody else Linares beat since his loss is any better than Maduma, who Mitchell took monster shots from all night without going down, Linares still hasn't really beaten a decent lightweight other than really faded Rocky Juarez and Jesus Chavez on losing streaks, WBC belt or not. Mitchell would stop Nihito Arakawa , he hits way harder than Linares that cannot be denied Many people picked Estrada to beat Mitchell I've picked against Mitchell against Katsidis and Burns, I'm strongly favouring him in this one Mitchells recent activity has helped him immensely, he's constantly training for a fight nowadays and alongside notorious gym rats like Ricky Burns, after his long inactive spell post Burns fight I thought that's it, he's done, but I feel he can actually pull this off
I wouldn't say he looked terrible but he looked a step slower than a very quick, sharp, strong puncher who was detonating bombs on his chin all night and he hung in there til the end and grinded it out, whereas against Burns he just completely folded and seemed to accept it, that's actually a good sign if you're a Mitchell fan
Kev seems reborn under sims, IMO he has the potential to win, and with home advantage I think he has a great shout
