2000-2015 represents approximately 11% of gloved heavyweight lineage starting back from Mr. Sullivan. In a top 40 list, that means 4 fighters who primarily represent that time period should directly make the cut into that echelon.

The top 3 of that time period are Mr. W. Klitschko, Mr. V. Klitschko, and Mr. Povetkin. So, even if you operate under the belief that this 15 year period is so bad that it forfeits one of its 4 slots, Mr. Povetkin still makes the cut.

Great post on a great thread. Very intelligent. This is exactly how I've always said ATG rankings should go, rank them according to their positioning in their era, giving your preferred era's first billing. In other words, the GOAT is the best fighter from your preferred era, followed by the best fighters from other eras, to be followed after that by the #2's of era's, then #3's, etc. Its the only fair way to do it.

For Povetkin, right now he's certainly in the debate for #3 of the Klitschko era, which would certainly put him in the top 40 all time. To me, right now there are legit arguments for Sam Peter, Corrie Sanders, and David Haye as well though. If Povetkin beats Wilder and assumes WBC belt, his sheer volume of top victories probably pushes him past those three and anyone else for the #3 spot of the era and easily top 40 all time, even though he's never performed as well against a Klitschko as Peter or Sanders.

Thanks for the clarification. I think Wlad would be open to it as would Povetkin. The first fight was an ugly match but with all the political upheaval between their two respective countries I am sure it would sell again. If Povetkin defeats Wilder and Wlad defeats fury - Povetkin vs Wlad in Russia or Ukraine for all the marbles would be the biggest fight possible on the other side of the Atlantic. It would also be historically relevant. I hope it plays out this way. Then the next generation Parker, Joshua, and others can begin to make their own name. Wlad will probably start dropping belts or ride off into the sunset.
