As you mentioned, Golovkin fought the same guy that Cotto is fighting. How can he be an acceptable opponent for GGG but not for Cotto?

    Sturm, Mundine, Sylvester.
All reasonable names. Certainly better names than GGG has on his resume. Cotto has a point. I agree that he doesn't want a bar of GGG, but he isn't entirely wrong in questioning the quality of Golovkin's resume.

He'd have a point if Golovkin didn't have a dominant win of Gaele.

It is not arguable that Gaele is the better fighter of the better win. The truth is that GGG is too high risk, it has nothing to do with his resume.

i disagree, you're arguing against sporting integrity. what's the point of working your way to mandatory status if a succession of champions avoid you? how can you call yourself the man of the division if you refuse to face the best in that division?

we end up with a farcical situation where fighters (primarily from the americas) are heavily favoured. look at ward - mandated his 1st fight in years, didn't fancy it so froch was stripped while waiting on purse bids!

you say fighters make the belts, but the best mw fighter is being denied the chance to give that belt the credibility it warrants.

because he's trying to organise 2 in succession rather than face his mandatory.

With which bit, that GGG fighting for the WBC title doesn't matter much as everybody already knows he is the #1 MW?

Not really, I'm not saying GGG should never have the opportunity to fight for the belts, just that it doesn't matter even if he doesn't as everybody already knows the truth. A duck is as good as a victory for the other guy imo.

To win the title. If you become mandatory you will get your title shot it just sometimes takes a bit of time.

You can't. As I've said, everybody knows GGG is the man at 160.

GGG can give his belt that credibility by fighting the best MW's in the world who are willing to fight him. Fighting a guy who isn't even a real MW, who would be a massive underdog and who never even beat the best at 140, 147 or 154 fighters will not give GGG's belt any more credibility.

What piisses me off most is that Cotton SAY on that title for a good yr before even making a reasonable defense of it.

He could got Heiland or Geale already and been signed to fight Canelo in Sept.

Now...it will be Canelo getting 18 mos to swerve while GGG will be LUCKY to get NDam, Lemiuex Lee, BJS or Eubank while waiting for Canelo to finally drop it or pray GGG gets tired of waiting n moves N to chase Ward to LHW

Well , thats boxing these days , low risk highest reward mentality , i would hope that WBC enforce the mando , but it already seems like it was agreed that Canelo will go to the head of the line infront of ALL the hard working MW`s in the world , and after he wins the title his fans will say "leave him alone his too small for MW , he should be fighthing @ 154" and we will have 4-5 years of the most important MW title in the hands of 154 champs holding it hostage and abusing catch weights when they defend it.

He is honest I can respect that, honestly right now at this point he has already proven himself, let him make some money and sail for a bit.

I think he would take Canelo before GGG only because of he is going to roll the dice he should make the most doing it.

    Hopkins - Taylor - Pavlik - Martinez - Cotto *

Golovkin deserves a crack at the lineal history of his division. That you say it doesnt matter because hes already considered the man means ****.

G is the rightful challenger to the lineal title and the bottom line is he deserves his chance at the title.

Not to mention in order to unify the division, he needs it.
