Middleweight is without doubt Britain's p4p best. We're oming into a good era full stop for boxing at the moment to be honest.
Its very strong in Ireland too. Apart from Lee, Macklin, theres a few good prospects that everyone will know soon enough ---> Dubliner Luke Keeler, Donegals Quigley, Cummings etc I'm not totally sold about Ryder to be honest. He has no real 'approach game' as far as I can see. He seems to lunge in from afar (not jab his way in ) and relies on his strength and awkwardness to keep his opponent confused and off-balance. Also he doesent really sustain any long bursts of clean powerful punches --> he is inclined to fall in to 'messy' clinches while cuffing away with chopping hooks, not quality shots. I dont think thats enough at top level. I could see him running out of ideas and losing interest ---> (a bit like De Gale did against Dirrell for long spells.) Being unconventional, awkward and strong wil only get him so far. He could be found out against Blackwell. Time will tell.
He has Irish parents. He's as Irish as I am :yikes....as Irish as Frankie Gavin...and countless other British-based boxers. :smooch (Not sure is Martin Murray an 'Irish' Murray or a 'Scottish' Murray ....but hey, lets not be greedy now, right? Now about the Blackwell fight this Saturday.....:bbb
If you've been on holiday to Ireland, Len considers you Irish. The Irish do that so they can piggy back onto others success. Sad, really.
Looks like this might start during the cup final whilst Cleverly appears later on the bill in a total mismatch. Disappointing if so.
Have posted before take Ryder to win on points in a real hard contest. Blackwell underrated agree, wouldn't be shocked at all if he wins. This fight will go under the radar sadly. It should of been on a regular Saturday show supporting a 'main' event not on PPV down the bill in front of a half empty arena.
Underrated fight not given the exposure it deserves and you have summed it up on the other thread I have just read :good The timing of the fight will it seems clash with the cup final. To add in the arena the only ticket sales it will effect are for Ryder who is an ****nal fan from Islington...
Good points to be honest, I feel the same way with what you said. I did think Ryder was pretty good before he fought Billy Jo Saunders, picked him to win that fight and fought he won by a round. However, I think the jab will prove to be a big weapon in this fight, if Blackwell get's that going and can set his shots up off the jab I think he could do very well, something Ryder hasn't been doing much is using the jab and Blackwell has, also Blackwell is very tough and improved. Tough one to call.
