If you watch in slow mo clearly the dog landed the cleaner punches and also had a torn paw prior to the confrontation think

 

When that review is done, you can see Manny's tears in the reflection of the spoon as his Dad is eating the dog.

 

If Manny's dad would have stood still then the dog could have landed more bites
