I have now updated my opinions on Khan's standing in the Welterweight/Dannyweight/Junior Welterweight divisions. I have him #7 at 147 (ahead of Guerrero, Maidana, Chaves, and Alexander) with absolutely zero prospects of advancing further: These are guys that Khan simply won't ever beat: -Elite athleticism and/or skill level. Mayweather/Pacquiao: LEVELS above Khan. Would dominate him even if he had massive power and a granite chin. They're just way better. Bradley: We know Khan can't fight an inside pressure fighter. Peterson does everything Algieri does, but better. Bradley does everything Peterson does, but better. And Bradley has the wild overhand, probably a much more effective one than Algieri throws. JMM Is old, but would have no trouble countering Khan into oblivion. Brook: Too big, strong, and technically correct for a sloppy guy like Khan. Power + Timing beats Speed + No Chin. Thurman: This wouldn't be a fight, it would be a public beating. Porter: Khan has nothing to keep this kind of guy off him. Porter also has the wild overhand. Provodnikov/Matthysse: There's no way in hell Khan survives these fights. Crawford: Would time Khan in the middle rounds and finish him. These are guys that Khan CAN beat, but more often than not won't: -Reasonable power, intelligence, athleticism, and/or skill. Peterson: Has the style to beat Khan and is even bigger and stronger now. Garcia: Khan might last longer the second time...but he still eats a counter and goes to sleep. Maidana: I think he would have won the first fight if not for that bodyshot in the last one. He looked like he was wounded in there for the rest of the fight. He's unquestionably improved (especially his stamina), and he has the wild overhand. Guerrero: I think Khan CAN beat Guerrero. But he won't if Guerrero brings the pressure. And he also has good counterpunching ability and hits hard enough to knock Khan out. Chaves: Khan is much better than Chaves, but this would go a lot like Khan-Garcia. Sooner or Later Chaves will land that counter uppercut and Khan will be done. Rios: See above. I think this would be a better matchup for Khan because Rios has slightly less power and is more predictable. I still think he'd find him sooner or later. Broner: Interesting fight...Good speed and countering ability. Definitely has enough power to stop Khan with a counter. Not sure if he's good enough to pull it off but it would be a fun fight. Ortiz, Berto, Josesito, JSK: All of these guys should take a beating, but all of them would stand a serious chance of landing the bomb. These are the kind of guys Khan beats: -Featherfisted and notably slower and/or less athletic. Herrera: This would be similar to the Algieri fight, but Herrera doesn't have the size, isn't as quick, and probably doesn't even hit as hard as Algieri. Khan should have no problems. Alexander: Doesn't have the style, size, or skill level to beat Khan. Had decent power at 140 but he's not great at landing it. Also doesn't have the heart. Algieri: We saw it. Collazo: We saw it and it was as expected. Paulie: We saw it and it was as expected.
I don't think so. The real top fighters have enough skill to beat him even without his chin issues. He is an extremely flawed fighter and speed can only compensate up to a certain level of opponent.
