Hey all just abit of a question about D.Geale for you folks, I've been thinking about the cotto-geale fight this weekend, and while I'm not debating who the better boxer is I have been wondering if Geale might have a chance at a sneaky upset - weight divisions are around for a reason and cotto has come up So I went back and re-watched cotto-martinez, now martinez knee was an issue but something I seem to have glanced over is the fact that cotto had enough power to actually hurt martinez, seems to be where the knee gave in was after cotto hit martinez with that left hook he hurt him and whatever way martinez was going down seemed to twist the knee abit, the point remains that cotto still had good power in that left hook and wa able to have martinez hurt in a few instances - so now I'm wondering if I've been under-estimating cottos ability at MW How well is geales punch resistance? If I'm being totally honest all I really know of geale is his KO in GGG's highlight wheel (might be all I need to know eh) - I dont expect the left hook to be landing at will like in his martinez, geale not fighting from a southpaw stance and shouldnt have a knee injury, but if it lands (even to the body - if cotto goes back to it) is geale going to handle it well going on his past preformance?
Martinez was hurt and knocked down in his last 4 fights, by Macklin, JCC Jr, Murray and Cotto. The problem was that his defence has always been his movement, keeping his hands low moving out of the way and countering. Now that movement is gone, wich means the defence is gone. Geale is used to fight actual Middleweights, and can take a decent punch. Just not monster punches like GGG's.
It won't be an upset, Cotto is shot to **** since 2008. Geale should win being the bigger man, but he's a bum. This is the same man that lost to Mundine in his prime.
An additional issue is the fact that Sergio Martinez is a very small MW. He is actually a JMW that moved up. The size difference between Cotto and Martinez wasn't significant. That being said, Cotto has shown himself to be solid puncher in every weight class that he has landed at, and it is clear that he is classically the superior boxer. This plus the fact that Geale has likely drawn himself making weight, plus the fact Geale isn't the normal stylistic matchup to trouble Cotto says Cotto wins this one.
geale is a pro boxer from his early childhood.he went to germany and won 2 trinkets with sturdy work.he knows the science of boxing.look for geale to work cotto down in the last 2 rounds.
Thanks all for the replies - just wanted to get abit more info on geale - i know cotto wouldnt have picked him if he didnt think he could win but never can be too sure in this sport - just look at khan-algeri last week, think that suprised us all.
It was a controversial decision and Mundine was not a bum He is now a bum because He is shot and still beat a beat decent fighter in His last fight. Geale amange to defeat Him in a rematch more clearly.
