When is it ok for a fighter to quit "No Mas"?

I don't think a fighter should ever be in a position to quit... It's up to the corners, and ref to watch out for the safety of these guys. Nobody what you're going to look like a ***** if you quit, that's just the way it is. Right or wrong.

 

Quitting means he chose to not be punch drunk and hopefully be able to fight again.

 

Between the rounds in your corner, if you had enough that's the time.

Yeah, and what was he worth, how much power did he have at the negotiating table? He had to bend over backward to get that fight by accepting a catch weight, and for peanuts in money I'm sure. That's someone begging for hand out because they have no value.

 

It's helluv alot easier to "soldier on" when you're not fighting a HOF'er like Cotto trained by a HOF trainer. You act as if everyone is created equal, if they were there'd be no purpose to sports. One of the major factors being tested is will power, which is well known to be different for everyone yet somehow you believe everyone's should be the same,that doesn't make sense.

 

i dont consider him a coward, but he definitely lacks the heart of a champion in my book. afterall "when the going gets tough, the tough get going"

 

Never quit. There are so many other options and safety nets. The ref is looking out and can make a decision to stop the fight if you are in danger, your corner can stop the fight, you can stay down and not beat the count - but don't get to you feet and then shake you head and say you don't want to fight anymore.

As a fighter the only decision in your head should be to keep fighting, if you cant stay down or get to your corner and let your corner call it off, that way you don't come across as a quitter

 

It depends. There is quitting due to sour g****s. Quitting because of self-preservation and quitting because the fighter knows they have nothing to give to the fans.

The last two I can respect.

 

Ask Oscar, Chavez jr, Willie Monroe jr, Manny, Chad etc

 

If a man has had enough and is done fighting, that's his business. It's not a fight to the death.
Just don't go back after the fight and say you didn't quit.
