Biggest let down/hype job of the past 20 years.

    Boxing is a tough sport and this is not a thread to be overly disrespectful but who in your opinion has been the biggest let down of the past 20 years.

    I'm talking someone who your head told you this kid could be pretty good/great or someone who your heart was like I hope this guy makes it huge.

    Could be someone like Berto or Ortiz who just didn't have what it takes to go to the top.

    I think a good nomination for let down would be Fernando Vargas. Now looking back I love Vargas (steroids allegations aside) for the sheer excitement and warrior mentality he bought but looking at how he burst through his career really fizzled out.

    Your thoughts/suggestions?

    Donaire. He talked about being bullied as a kid yet he almost always had the height and size advantage over his opponents. Donaire is shining example of how easy it is to get titles these days. He has 5 division titles thanks to favorable matchmaking by Arum and of course at the midget weights using the bathroom lands you in a different division.

    Haye would be another good shout. I know it seems laughable know but there was a feel he could give the Klitschko's a real scare at one point.

    Vargas was just rushed, and with the back injury he had, if I recall correctly, he wasn't going to have a long career anyway.

    Broner for the Fl()mos. He was supposed to be the next Floyd Mayweather, right. I mean these guys thought Broner/Mayweather was a 50-50 fight. :rofl

    Agreed. Looking at back its crazy how early they put him in with Tito. But man was that some fight :good

    Disagree on Bute the guy held a title for 4 years or so and defended it like 9 times, couldnt beat Froch, so what. The guy had a good career

    Vargas, was he really that rushed? I mean he beat Wright, he beat Quartey, who was he supposed to fight? Trinidad was the next logical fight, he fought well but he lost. Went on to perform very well vs Oscar and Mosley

    Andre Berto maybe, but he had naysayers even when he was still unbeaten, never really was that hyped well maybe by the networks

    The biggest hype job would have been Wladimir Klitschko if he had not rebounded his career

    Would you put Chad Dawson in this running though he has had lots of success himself?

    Broner looked to be a very goof gather but didn't turn out to be as good as most thought, Berto, Judah although he accomplished a lot was never as good as expected
