Frankie Gavin has said he's left his long time trainer Tom Chaney working out of Hall Green ABC. Looks like Gavin has made some big decisions since the Brook defeat. Be interesting to see who trains him now. I know people have been critical of Tom in the past but he was able to keep FG a bit more focused than other trainers which I think is important for someone like Gavin. Thoughts on who he should go with and why??
Simms would be a bad move, especially if he ends up training down south. Booth would work wonders with Frankie.
FG needs constant reassuring a stable with many fighters in wouldn't be ideal for him he needs one on one style coaching Booth would be ideal,if he was a lot younger because he's 30 now I would recommend going stateside head towards the wildcard gym
Would not be worth a coaches time financially training him one one one as would leave them lacking time to have a stable. Thats ok if you have a fighter like Froch as 10% of his purses is big dough but not quit the same with Frankie. Maybe Billy Nelson fancies training him as i know he rated him higher than Brook, least he would be fit that way !
Jesus.. Bit late in the day for him to be making calls like this isn't it. Tbh, it was obvious where his level was before the Brook fight, and the fact he fell short was of no surprise at all. Where he heads to next is a total mystery, as all the top trainers are working with fighters who will make Gavin no longer be the star pupil... Booth would do a good job with anyone, though I doubt the two would pair up as Booth likes to fully focus on a small group doesn't he.
Although this is complete speculation but there is no shortage of professional experienced trainers like Joe Gallacher, or even trainers such as Bobby Rimmer and Jamie Moore based in the Manchester area.
He should go to the states and get 2 months worth of sparring in and then get 3 months in with his new trainer before his fight in November. Gallacher or Booth. Those are the only viable options. He needs a constant supply of quality sparring, a no-nonsense coach and he needs it all to be away from his city.
Top class sparring and a gym that churns out champions?? Surprised that no-one has mentioned the Ingle gym.
Cant see Frankie linking up with Booth and Gallagher would not be a good fit. Sims a good shout but the stable is allready quite big. Dave Caldwell from what I have seen of him in the corner the more I am impressed. Short term move or mccracken if froch retires? Good luck to frankie in his next move and hope he gets a shot at the euro strap
