Ken Shamrock vs. Kimbo Slice in Bellator

I don't have great confidence in Shamrock mainly for the reason that they interviewed him two days ago and he stated that he knew Kimbo was a guy who would come right out to bang, and he was going to beat him "at his own game". He was dead serious too, and ranted on about how these guys over-rate their standup - he said he was one of the best stand up fighters, and also mentioned how he was still fighting James Quinn McDonagh later this summer in BKB - which by the way, i don't think anyone picked Shamrock to beat that guy....

Like i said before i will watch because it is free TV, and with all of the respect I have for Ken, i don't believe he wins this fight...Many more have said that he is going to find a last-minute reason to not fight...

 

I sort of half feel bad for Shamrock going into this fight. I wish he would fight a "regular" fighter for old time's sake, maybe an opponent from his past like Royce, or maybe even Tito again. I realize both Royce and Tito are old, but Shamrock is old, and the interviews he gives he mentions how for him this is about turning back the clock because people didn't see him at his best at the end of his career. He says he feels like he's 35 again, which i realize all old fighters say. I feel like he would lose to Tito and Royce, but he would still have his "respect" because he was beaten by a once-great fighter.

I'm not taking anything away from Kimbo, but listening to all of Ken's interviews and pod-casts, he has to constantly validate himself. It's like he wants to fight even harder because nobody is giving him a chance - they are writing him off because of his age. That makes sense to me because every fighter / competitive person wants to validate themself. Ken has a true fighter's heart.

But the problem is, if he is serious about taking a stand-up fight to Kimbo - Ken is doing it for the sole reason because everyone is talking about how good Kimbo's stand up is. It's like in his mind Ken is saying "well if they think he's good at it, look how good I can be!". He should be preparing by training to his strengths - which is his natural wrestling ability and his leg locks - instead of trying to throw hands with a guy who made a name for himself by putting together a KO reel.

If Ken wins this fight, there is talk of him continuing his career in Bellator. I am going to be watching his documentary that comes out on Friday night. It looks good and I am a fan of any boxing / mma documentary. Supposedly it deals with whatever the "problem" was that Ken had at the end of his career with losing all his fights. I'm no doctor but If I had to guess, with how good Ken looks now, and how good they say he looks in training - perhaps Ken was dealing with some kind of testosterone / hormone loss due to age, and maybe now he is regulated again. Will be a good watch

 

The punch that ended the fight left a good sized gash over ken's eyebrow, and he was bleeding from around his other eye also.

If it was not staged - i would say this has to be the end for Ken. I can't imagine anyone out there who he could beat in his current form / state.

I even had such hopes for him after watching "the greatest fight" documentary - he looked like a beast in training and just seemed so at peace with himself, etc..

Shamrock did not answer questions about his future but i'd have to think he will retire for good..
