I know that jackass, but officially the ref gave him 5 minutes because a perceived low blow.

Certainly with the benefit of a couple replays, Magdaleno clearly threw a punch that landed on the exposed area of Gonzalez's abdomen, slightly below the horizontal plane of the umbilicus. The same punch also grazed the upper portion of the waistband of Gonzalez's protective cup, with the waistband of his trunks being well below the punch. It seemed to me that referee Pabon had a good angle to view the punch, so I was very surprised that he called it a low blow. But then again, this is Pabon we are talking about, and he screws up nearly every fight he officiates. In the end, Pabon blowing the call didn't really matter, as Gonzalez wasn't getting up in 10 seconds or 5 minutes. But on another day, if he got up after 10 seconds and ended up beating Magdaleno, then there is a real mess to clean up. This is just the latest example of how boxing referees, both competent ones and incompetent ones (like Pabon), really need to have instant replay available as backup, to ensure that fights may be appropriately officiated in real time.

Instant replay wouldn't work in this case. The ref's gotta get it right. If it's called a lowblow and a count's not given, the fighter's not going to make the same effort to get up. And if he gets up at 15 seconds and the action resumes the call can't be reviewed between rounds and called a KO.

    Round 1

Good close first round Edwards rolling and slipping a few of Zurdo's punches early, Zurdo driving the straight left right into Edwards face, Edwards answers back with body shot Ramirez flurries at end of the round close.

    Ramirez 10-9

    Round 3

More of the same from round 2, but Zurdo hurt Edwards at the end of the round and opened up a barrage on him right before the bell.

    Derek about to get KTFO?

Ramirez-Sanchez may want to stake his claim for a shot @ Badou Jack if he makes a statement here... (given what Edwards did with the champ)

Shakur had a glass chin. All it took was being seated 10 feet away from Mike Tyson delivering a punch and, boom. :dead
