Just been anounced Amir Khan will fight Michael Gomez the very unlikable bad mannered man who has been on the downward spiral for quite some time. Khan wants to be a World Champion in 2008 surely fighting a shot fighter like Gomez who has visibly aged significantly and looks old is a step backwards on the path to world domination? Is Khan now just going to become another typical sports network fighter and avoid the real big fights and feed off low oppostion for his next 20 contests?

Yes, a step back. Former 130 pounder who was limited even at his best, nothing more than a Domestic topper and is now shot with an eroded chin and at a size disadvantage.

Sound like even a minor challenge?

Get him in there with a REAL gatekeeper/fringer like Huerta, not these Domestic cream puffs whom are wrongfully ranked at the World level. But we all know Huerta would KTFO Khan easily, as Khan himself is a cream puff novelty sell, vastly lower than true hard-ass top level World fighters.

Maybe it's because Warren knows he's gonna lose Khan.

Making it blantantly obvious his rating of Amir

I don't see anything wrong with Khan taking it a bit slow. When he's ready he'll step up. He's still a boy in boxing terms.

Not at all, Rees was a title holder from a division up and could handle punches from hitters at 140 pounds, Khan would have been in for a 12 round fight vs. a durable pressure guy with a decent jab.

Gomez is a shot, chinny, undersized fighter.

I am disapointed to be honest. I thought he was going to fight Rees. :-(

Difference being that Gomez can punch and will rush Khan from the start. He was classed as shot when he went and KO'd Alex Arthur and whilst I expect Khan to handle him easily he does at least pose the first punching threat that Khan has faced and Rees brought zero danger to the table.
