    Not any time soon.
The problem with MMA is that it still has an air of human cocckfighting to it. At the amateur level MMA is either going to be unregulated or illegal wherever the fighters go. A sport wont evolve to its potential if youths are discouraged from getting started. New York doesnt even want professional MMA around.

Also The degree of difficulty/learning curve seem ridiculously low. Guys like Weidman, Brock Lesnar not only get title shots with less than 10 fights but WIN titles over "Hall of Fame bound" veterans. Thats mind boggingly bad. Whether he will admit it or not its the reason CM Punk is doing it despite zero background in any combat sport.

The only way mma will overtake boxing is if the safety 1st pundits keep pushing for more regulations ala bigger gloves, quicker referee stoppages, lesser rounds, etc. If pro boxing becomes more and more like the ams, it will definitely lose its luster and fans along with it.
