The real fight How calzaghe could win a fight when 90 % of the blows he throws were ILLEGAL slaps beats me . He looks like a little peewee golden glover who hasn't learned how to punch yet
Why bring Margarito into this you alts always give yourselves away

well yeah. the actual fight could have gone either way. horrible really, a guy who could throw lots but barely land enough unless facing weaklings, versus a guy who could land accurately but could no longer throw enough to win unless he cherrypicked a tailormade "weakling".

joe best achievement was outgassing a 40something. that's all that needs to be said. joe never had the top level skills to cut it, it was always backdoor for him.

The real question here is how many times CJ has voted for Hopkins on the poll?

Bowe beat Holyfield and Marquez beat Pacqiauo. But does anybody really rank those two guys higher?

Same way, Calzaghe should not be ranked anywhere near as high as Hopkins.

Hopkins is pretty much respected everywhere, Calzaghe is seen as a joke by at least half of the boxing world.

True comment. A more honorable and worthy discussion would be: Who ranks higher Roy Jones Jr or Bernard Hopkins? As they are two rivals that have surpassed beyond legendary limits. I can see valid cases made for either man even though I would side with BHop.

As for Calzaghe, a good fighter, should really be discussed in the category of fighters such as, Who ranks higher all time? Calzaghe or Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Steve Collins, Dariusz Michaelowvski (DM), Zsolt Erdei.... and those are all decent fighters.

    Its about levels.

I've been thinking this as well. If you compare best three wins, it's De La Hoya, Tarver and Trinidad compared to Toney, Hopkins and Tarver. Sure Jones Jr is ahead, but longveity goes to Hopkins, bal.ls goes to Hopkins, not getting humiliated by B-level opponents goes to Hopkins, and not being juiced up to the eyebal.ls goes to Hopkins.

You don't need to be very open minded to support Hopkins on this one. I think he's cooler.

I think Slappys resume is starting to become an exhausted subject even here on ESB. I guess his butthurt haters can be riled up a few times more, but why bother? IMHO he crawled over the ATG-edge just barely, and he'll remain there together with all the questionmarks about how good he actually was.

Open minded, close minded or no minded it would still be an interesting debate in a new thread some time in the near future. Featuring top ESB expert panelists such as Mind Reader, Imperial1, the friendly Loudon, bailey, AnotherFan, underrated des3995, realdealsoulja, the encyclopedia Serge, C.J, not to forget RJJ hater/Glass Jaw expert Rico Spadafora and semi retired HOF'ers Joe.Boxer and HEADBANGER. Maybe even a comeback by legendary ESB punchbag Lance_uppercut then add a couple of fence sitters, cheerleaders and few others not mentioned and we can get an ATG discussion.

With Calzaghe's resume starting to become an exhausted topic I think only a Roy Jones Jr vs Hopkins debate is capable of gathering such folk into one thread to contribute hard hitting scholarly verdicts for truth of overpower falsehood once again.

I think this is the best comment to close the thread with.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

So there we have it folks, after a fairly decent discussion another Calzaghe thread comes to an end. Maybe some learnt new stuff like what semi retired is, that Calzaghe most brutal KO is actually used for Comedy purposes, and also Calzaghe never held a legit title at LHW. But whether you was open minded, close minded or no minded it was generally accepted from the get go Hopkins has done more in the sport than Calzaghe did.

Ironically the debate even resembled the actual Hopkins - Calzaghe clash. Where the Calzaghe fans just like Zaggers threw alot of ineffective slaps, but the more accurate scoring hard hitting facts were delivered by the Hopkins supporters. However this time the judges poll clearly, and rightfully reflected the true winner.

I am guessing that Bailey, when saying Kessler was unwell/double vision against Ward, fails to mention that he had broken his hand 3 weeks before the calzaghe fight and that he didn't spar because of it.

I cannot be bothered to read through the thread, but I am correct right?
