Froch would beaten Calzaghe if they boxed in 2008

It may surprise some people me saying this as alot of people know I am not the biggest Froch fan.

But Joe was on a decline back in 08, on the floor against both Hopkins (not a massive puncher) and the well past his sell by date Roy Jones Jr.

Froch was fresh from any wars and showed how tough he was that year when he went life and death and beat the very tough Jean Pascal.

There would be no way that Calzaghe would of been able to stop a guy like Froch with one of the most impressive chins in world boxing, and we saw last May what a big puncher he can be.

After watching tapes of Joe's last two fights I can see why he vacated the WBC title, because I honestly believe now he knew Froch's power, strength and toughness would of given him some serious trouble.

If Hopkins had him on the floor then it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Froch would of walked him down and maybe even stopped him?

    Discuss...............

As much as I rate Froch as a fighter, any version of Calzaghe beats him for me.. styles make fights and Calzaghe has the style to beat Froch, lets also remember 2008 Calzaghe was up at Light-Heavy.

Hopkins and Roy were both flash knockdowns in the first round, he got back up both times to win and in the case of Jones, win convincingly.

I've watched Calzaghe/Hopkins a few times and seriously cannot see how people (mainly yanks) score it for Hopkins. The fight was close in periods, but it was a close but clear victory for Hopkins. Nobody looks good against Hopkins, I think even now Hopkins would make Froch look bad. Not saying Froch wouldn't win, but he'd be made to work for it that's for sure and it'd be an ugly fight.

An older version of Hopkins to the one Calzaghe faced, beat Pascal more convincingly (albeit in not as an exciting fight) than Froch did. But then I suppose that depends on how much you want to look into 'triangle theories'.

If Calzaghe was to have fought Froch at the period of time, there's no question in my mind that he'd have picked up a decision victory. Of course Froch would have had his moments in the fight, he's too good a fighter not too and there's no way Calzaghe stops him, but I don't see Froch stopping Calzaghe either... he'd get beaten on points.

Oh I agree mate I def scored the Hopkins fight to Joe, but when Froch hurts someone he is ****ing relentless hence why I believe he would of stopped Degale quite brutally if they had boxed.

I could see Degale giving Froch problems with his style, but he is prone to taking breaks and sitting on the ropes... if he starts hanging around the ropes for too long against Froch he'll get Bute'd.

Calzaghe wasn't really hurt by Jones (remember it was his forearm he got caught with) and Hopkins when he was put down in the 1st though was he, if anything when Groves nailed Froch with that right hand he was in a worse state... but what a chin he has.

He might have been able to stop the likes of Bute & Taylor whilst like you said 'being relentless' but Calzaghe was different gravy and it wouldn't happen.

The way Degale gassed against Dirrell would of put him in a world of trouble againts Froch.

Yes Froch may of been in a worse state against Groves but I honestly believe that for a single shot Groves is the biggest puncher in the smw division.

Calzaghe has been on the floor a few times in his career(Bryon Mitchell etc) and I honestly believe if Froch got to him he would of stopped him.

I think if Froch gets to anyone he will more then likely stop them, he can be out boxed as has been seen on a number of occasions and I think Calzaghe would have done that and won a decision whilst surviving a few scary moments.

Don't know if Joe's slappy style would keep a more recent version of Froch off but I'm fairly confident he would have kept 2008 Froch off and won on points

Id back Calzaghe to come out of retirement now & smash Froch...

Would be even worse than the Ward beating

Calzaghe would of totally outclassed Froch back in 2008 winning a very wide points decision.

    I agree.
I'm a froch fan but he wouldn't have won over Joe. I think he would have scared Joe though and properly tested his chin. But Joe would have won a points decision
