Which great fighters took the least punishment in their entire career? There have been many virtuoso defensive artists whose skills nonetheless abandoned them at a point, and before their careers were over, were subject to abuse that they never encountered before when they still had their gifts. Overall, which greats escaped the game with their senses still intact, with the least evidence of scar tissue, brain damage or other "souveniers" of the game?

Joe Calzaghe is worth a mention here, he looks like a right poof. Fast, busy, and in with mediocre competition in the modern era, there is hardly a mark on him.

duran definitely deserves mention. over 100 fights faced the best his era had to offer, and left the game at a late age, yet still has all of his wits about him.

I agree, SRL looks astonishingly untouched by age or wear. Watched Bert Sugars greatest knockouts on classsic channel and hitman was ready to go in the ring again, SRL looked at him at laughed and said....yeah right Thomas.

Pep looked pretty good in later years.

Leonard looks like he's still 30.

Foreman took a lot of abuse, but he still looks normal except for a typical pushed in nose.

I don't know maybe sb who came out with their faculties/speach intact long term. Of the ones mentioned definately SRL, Foreman, Duran, and looks like calzaghe will. can't speak to the others.

Is it me or does Leonard have a slur in his speech these days? He looks great but he took some big shots over the years.

I was surprised at how lucid Jack LaMotta, of all people, was a few years ago.

Last time or two I've seen Foreman, he seems to be all there too.

i think this is the correct answer to the thread question, which is about who took the least number of shots in a career as opposed to who still has their faculties intact post-career... sure duran seems untouched by all his battles but he took a shitload of punishment... as the previous poster alluded to, duran probably took more punishment in his fight with iran the blade barkley than sweet pea took in his entire career

Jack Johnson looks fairly healthy and appears to have no obvious boxing damage in the old films and photos of him in his 50s and 60s. I heard a brief recording of his voice once. He was talking about his career. I think he was over 50 at the time of the recording and he spoke clearly and articulately. I heard he had almost no eyebrows because of some scar tissue, but he remained remarkably unscathed for one who fought over a period of several decades.:patsch
