fighting a guy of Berto's level as his final fight after essentially easily handling the guy many people claimed he was ducking for years is a slap in the face to the fans, especially if he's claiming he's TBE

 

Many fighters have softer touches between, often because of wars or losses but Mayweather doesn't have those too often. He has fought a murderer's row of Canelo Alvarez, Marcos Maidana x2, Manny Pacquiao so I wouldn't be averse to a softer touch, I just assumed Garcia or Khan or Thurman or Brook would be it (let's be honest none of them are going to lay a hand on Floyd), not andre berto Difference is Pacquiao had just been knocked out so fought Rios who was tailor made for him and dragged up, Algieri beat the only guy left he could actually fight due to his promoter's ****py stable and was also dragged up. Guerrero was a poor but 'acceptable' fight, Berto is not but more people would talk about it than fighting an acceptable opponent.

 

Except for the fact that he's never ducked any man and the guy they said he was ducking for 6 years, non stop ridicule in the media/press... he finally beats him to pulps and they said the fight was a farce and boring...

and for the record, both made excuses for years, and both are equally to blame for the "fight of the century" for happening years too late

And what fighter do you know of has beaten more champions, ranked p4p his entire career, champion since 1998, still undefeated, highest paid athlete in the sport, PPV record holder three times over,and even at 38 would be favored to beat any fighter from 154 on down? Sounds like TBE to me...

as a huge boxing fan, and neutral in the May-Pac saga, I expect him to meet his claims, otherwise it's just lying and scamming people to buy his fights

Pac has also picked some nice cherries over the years (a drained DLH, Algieri, Rios), but (at least to my knowledge) has never claimed to be TBE

 

probably more of the money factor. when a fighter is guaranteed to receive tons of money then the demand for quality opponent cannot be put aside. if not for the expensive pay per view, perhaps the fans would not complain so much on the fights being made.

TBE? it's a self-claimed marketing slogan used by Floyd, nothing more, there is no possible way to prove he's the TBE, it's nothing more than a subjective opinion, just like the P4P rankings, my TBE is Ali, your's is FLoyd, I have no problem with that

 

I don't believe that him claiming to be the best should have any bearings on the standards applied to him. I'm with Nonito and Shockmaster: only hold him to these standards if YOU believe he's the best.

Golovkin fights the best AVAILABLE opponents. Fighters who are either a) scared b) fighting someone else or c) with Al Haymon would be considered unavailable.

But he fights the BEST AVAILABLE.

If Mayweather's goal was to also fight the best available, we would not be seeing Berto and probably Brook, heck maybe even Golovkin, instead.

 

I believe he's the best of THIS GENERATION, not the best EVER, there's no possible way to prove he's TBE

as a fan of boxing, I still think he should fight someone worthy of a fight with the great Floyd Mayweather Jr in his farewell fight, not someone of Berto's calibre
