If David Price can spark Anthony Joshua in sparring what hope does AJ have when he steps up ? I fear AJs chinny maybe more so than Price.
Well Price is one of the biggest punchers around, easily top 5 out of current HWs so I think you are being a bit silly really.
Joshua does need rounds at this point and I don't see that Cornish takes him past three on a good day.
Based on what? Price was stopped and dropped numerous times in his amateur career; I don't think Joshua was stopped once.
Is it actually confirmed that Price knocked down Joshua? Even if he did it's sparring, a lot of fighters get knocked down. Price used to get knocked down and knocked out often in the amateurs so it was no secret he was chinny when he turned over. Joshua took bombs from quality fighters like Cammarelle, Medzhidov and Dychko in major tournaments and fired back with his own shots. People are just clutching at straws because AJ has shown pretty much no flaws so far.
Really? Did this happen? If Price can land a decent shot on Joshua, sparring or now, it'd a bad sign. Joshua looks a level above imo and should be able to box rings round him (and knock him cold).
I don't understand what amounts to 'good' stats then. I just looked and he was stopped by Nistor, arguably the biggest puncher in the super heavyweight division, or if not he's certainly top 3. That's no shame, considering he held his own against Medzhidov & Dychko etc.
BTW this is the stoppage & fight on his record - make of it what you will. Not even half as bad as some of the stoppages Prices suffered in his career: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUx9sDcl2Cw
Stupid thread. Toxie Hall dropped Marciano in sparring. Travis Walker, and Raphel Butler both dropped Vitali Klitschko in sparring. Both Rocky and Vitali did ok by my reckoning. Anyone who lends and weigh to kds in sparring doesn't know much about the game.
Sparring is where you try out things, work on certain areas of your game etc.... If David Price hits anyone flush with a right hand they'd certainly know (or in some cases not know!!!) about it.
So what if Joshua got dropped once in sparring by a big puncher? Nobody doubts Price's power, but if they fought now I think most people would be backing Joshua by stoppage.
:deal Hell KINGPIN dropped Wladimir Klitschko 3 times in sparring; doesn't mean anything...!!! 100% of ATGs, HoFer and everyday boxers have been hurt, dropped or stunned in sparring...!!!
Sparring is where you try different things, maybe holding your guard a little different, or trying some different footwork. Getting tagged / dropped in sparring is how you work out what works and what doesn't. Whilst a fighters competitive nature will always come out its not a totally competitive environment. You never hear people go on about the time Messi missed a penalty in training do you? Or how Lewis Hamilton was 2 seconds slower than Vettel in practice? I have heard stories about fighters who look terrible in sparring yet come the actual fight look incredible. And of course vice versa! Sparring is just part of the preparation process for what happens in the ring on the night. The only place to judge a fighters ability is in that ring, not in the gym weeks prior when he is working on something.
