Heavy Duty - Joshua MBE v Cornish Wafer

I see from Anthony Joshua's tweet that Gary Cornish has grown an inch in height in the last week too and is now 6'8!

I guess that makes it appear more competitive ...

 

Cornish will come with ambition because he has a 21-0 (or whatever it is) record. Unfortunately, I suspect that ambition will get him KO'd in 2

 

Another fight AJ gains nothing from

 

AJ will walk through everybody other than Klitschko

and when he gets to Klitschko in his mid 40s he will walk through him too

 

I cannot believe people are criticising this fight?! Mind blowing. Cornish is 21-0 I believe and yes he is not the most talented fighter in the division, but he is still a decent fighter. Yes AJ should walk through him pretty quickly but he does that to most outside of the top 10 in the division. How can you expect such an inexperienced heavyweight to move as quickly as that?

The fighters that move quickly, like Lomachenko are ones with the very best and the greatest amount of amateur experience, AJ in comparison has had very little experience. Heavyweights carry a greater amount of risk too for obvious reasons and they are never moved as quickly as a lower weight fighter. I can understand people might be slightly disappointed that he isn't facing someone like Wach, who is who I wanted to see him fight but at least he is getting in there with a big guy early in his career, something people like Fury and Wilder have avoided to this day.

 

I think people are justified in criticizing Joshua's opponents because somehow they've built him up into main event headliner and also a WORLD RANKED CONTENDER.
They need to legitimize that by matching him with someone who's at least on the fringes of world contention.

 

Wouldve like it to have been chisora rather than Cornish.

An in shape dedicated dereck will cause AJ lots of problems, it's a good learning fight that will make AJ think and adapt.

And after Cornish it will be Whyte, a reasonable opponent but it means they have no plans for taking on a legit world contender this year.

If they put AJ in with Teper he'd jab the smaller man's head off and then the haters would claim another mismatch as AJ strapped the Euro belt around his waist.

Then again, if he doesn't face Teper then AJ will be "ducking" the man who's effectively finished Price.

Fight the 21-0 prospect? Mismatch. Don't fight the 21-0 prospect? Duck.
Fight Whyte? Easy pickings and learn nothing. Don't fight Whyte? Duck.

Same ****e - different fighter. He can't win with the obsessives and then folks wonder why fighters like him only try to appeal to the casuals.
