There is common ground here. I do think clinching should be addressed more. Take more points and DQ if really egregious.

As for the "running". It is part of the sport. Different strokes and such. Effective aggression is already a scoring criterium. Do you think they should reward ineffective aggression? Should a walking punching bag grt a win becsuse he has no ability to do anything else? Boxing is sort of yin/yang. 1 guy's gameplan and tactics can be solely reliant on the other's.

Simply explaining the scoring criteria to fans will be enough. That isn't done enough, and I'm actually glad the PBC highlights what the criteria is before the bout.

 

Just take puts away for excessive clinching

Take pts away for not engaging and running ..

Than boxing will be fine ..

 

The sport's already dumbed down, not going toe to toe but outlanding, outscoring and controlling distance = fighting scared to some.

 

think there could be something done in relation to scoring. As someone lands a jab or two, then proceeds to spoil / clinch / run for the rest of the round to win it 10-9, whilst a fighter can pretty much batter a fighter across the ring for 3 rounds without dropping him and still win 10-9, 10-8 rounds without a kd are rare. Something could be done to put more emphasis on knockouts or aggressive boxing, maybe 20 point rounds, and jab and grabbers win 20-19, a clear round win is 20-18 and a kd will be 20-16?

though football / soccer is obviously different, they used to have 2 points for a win, which changed in the 80's to 3 points to encourage teams to try harder to win. They also stopped the pass back to keepers to stop wasting time and spoiling the game which improved things a lot in circa 1990.

 

We should allow head butting to take away Ward's advantages. Plus toilet breaks between rounds if a boxer needs a wee and rather than a point deduction the wronged boxer should be allowed one free shot and his opponents chin.

Lots of fans seem to think so!

Nobody involved in the professional sport or who has actually boxed agrees, however.

 

There was once a fight that lasted for 110 rounds........then ended up a no contest.

 

People only want to change the rules when their fighter loses.
