If Joe stuck around another year, Ward would have handed him an L!

    Joe retired in 2008. By 2009 Ward was well on his way to clearing out the very division Joe made his name in. If he of stuck it out 1 more year or 2 then Ward would have definitely given Joe a nice retirement gift of a lost. Let's be honest guys, Joe's chin was starting to get weaker and weaker each fight. Dropped by Hopkins and KO riddled Jones Jr. proved that Joe was well on his way getting put to sleep by a much younger fighter if he didn't bail soon.

    Froch was on his heels and Joe just up and quit fighting before a prime fighter could get in that ass. Does that remind you hypocrites of someone who just did that recently????:huh

    He wouldn't even fight Froch, so it is a moot point.

    Wasn't he a light heavyweight at that stage? Ward would have been to scared to go up.

    Fight would have never happened no matter when Calzaghe retired. Calzaghe was at light heavy and Ward wouldn't have moved up, also Ward was an even smaller draw than he is now so Calzaghe would have had no interest in fighting some no name called Ward.

    Even if the fight had happened in 2009 Ward was yet to peak. He still could look sloppy back then and made mistakes so I doubt he would have won anyway even against an old Calzaghe.

    Slappy Joe slaps Ward a couple of times in the shoulders and has the fight stopped in the UK.

    Ward embarrasses and beats up Slappy Joe anywhere else.

    Unheard of Ward would've demanded PPV star Calzaghe come to Oakland, drop to 168, take only 20% of the money and have Ward's own ref and judges.

    And 'Zaggers still would have knocked him out. In fact, he could probably come back and do it now.

    Calzaghe was ready to retire when Ward came onto the scene. Had Joe been a few years younger it would have been a really interesting fight, but Joe had an amazing ability to adapt to his opponent and I'm sure he would have found way to win. You list Calzaghe KD's to Hops/Jones at the tail end of his career when he was old, let's see how Ward does when he's 36/37 shall we?

    Froch was a nobody then, and wouldn't have been a problem for Calzaghe at any stage of his career. Froch was a very limited, crude brawler who's chin and stamina got him to world level despite being outboxed in most of this big fights.

    calzaghe been in with many bigger hitters than Ward so theres no way Ward wins by K.O and to out box and out work Calzaghe no1 was able to do that cant see Ward throwing like 300 punches a round every round!
