After DeGale went with Haymon, Hearn mentioned he's looking at that kind of deal for another British fighter. Notice he tweeted that Selby's next fight is likely to be in the US. Not really that bad a move considering Haymon has Mares, Santa Cruz, Russell Jr and Frampton, and can probably still work with Matchroom guys like Quigg and Warrington. Plus he doesn't seem to have a huge fanbase over here at the moment
Selby will be licking his lips, none of those guys give him much problems apart from Russell Jr, who is another Dirrell that gets frustrated when things don't go his way.
For Selby to get those sorts of fights it makes absolute sense to be honest. Wouldn't be a surprise in the slightest.
agree i also think his style will very much suit the american audience they will also like his ring bravado too. There are some massive fights out thee for him. He would still need to improve tho to beat the best out there. Although i can actually see him improving still it seems that over the past year and a half things have really clicked with Lee and we could se him kick on to another level again
I tend to agree. And the guys at Featherweight who might give him trouble- like Lomachenko and Walters, are with Arum so those fights aren't happening
If selbz was to get a deal with haymon hed be better moving out stateside somewhere near the mexican border and plying his trade imo. Theres a lot better potential spars there for him and he could get himself under the tutelage of another trainer its possible to do that while still being with borg if he felt he didnt want to lesve him. Im not 100% sold on selbz personaly ok he did good against brunker and grad but hell lap that style all day long. Come fwd pressure fighters who come in straight lines are made for his style and he did work them over well. although i would of like to seen how he would of handled grad over the 12 i do believe he would of still beat him. Grad was good at the high workrate pressure as a fighter but as we saw when he fought valez who drew with him. a decent boxer keeping grad at range was all it was going to take to get the belt. The fact that grad never cut the ring off was the difference between a good pressure and a decent one. Selbz is a good boxer but i dont rate hom as much as some..it seems. Weve all seen him strugle against opp and im sure he will again. I think moving over to the states would give him the opportunity he needs to learn some different approahes. If he did that then i do think he could up his game for the better. I do hope he dos well
Never been afraid of heading out there for a good spar. Makes sense. Good luck to him. Great fighter.
Be good for him if he does, he has the style that the yanks will love and he will be able to earn some massive money in some really big fights.
Cant see how it works though, if he bases himself over there then what will happen with Sanigar? I can't see him wanting to leave Sanigar as they seem to have a very good relationship.
