Beterbiev - Hopkins for an IBF eliminator fight

    These two fighters have until thursday to decide weither or not they want to fight for an eliminator fight for the IBF (Kovalev) belt.

    Here is what will happen:

    Hopkins won't take the fight, obviously. He wants to go down to 168 or 160 (at his age, you lose muscle fast). Plus, if he wins, that means he would fight Kovalev again. But he already played in that movie and we all know the ending.

    So Beterbiev will probably take the fight (and not take that offer from Duva telling everybody they made a "really fair" offer) which we all know was a public stunt.

    When Beterbiev win the fight, that means their will be a purse bid opposing Kovalev's and Beterbiev's clan. Kovalev won't go to the purse bid (like he did with Stevenson) since he knows he won't win it.

    So at the end we will have Beterbiev-Kovalev-Stevenson having belts and not fighting each others, although they are all dream and fan friendly matchups. Welcome to Floyd era of boxing ladies and gentlemen.

    Yep pretty much.

    I hope Beterbiev forces Haymon's hand though. Of everyone in Haymon's stable he seems the worse fit to me, in comparison with the other Haymon clients

    ....and if Hopkins did fight him and won, why would he want to be Kovalev's mando. Pointless fight for Hopkins

    How does Floyd get blamed for a lack of unification fights? He's a unified champ in two different divisions. Anyway, I think these guys will eventually tangle with each other. There's a lot of politics in boxing though.

    Indeed, AA is chasing Hopkins and posting on Twitter that negotiations are ongoing. Why fight a young lion in an eliminator when someone offers you a World Title fight (which is even more winnable).

    I'm ok with Hopkins vs Abraham, but Beterbiev is a waste. Beterviev need to fight another young fighter and let the old man retire, Hopkins already lost to that champ and clearly.

    $10 it will be Beterbiev-Chilemba for the IBF eliminator with the winner facing Kovalev next year.

    If Hopkins is sensible he will retire, he's way past his best and the division is far stronger than before, picking up a title now isn't going to be as easy as before especially at his age.

    But you never know with BHop he fought Tito when he was a big underdog, jumped up 2 divisions to face Tarver, fought Dawson twice when everyone said Dawson would beat him, fought Kovalev when everyone said he should avoid him. Wouldn't surprise me if he took the fight if the money is right but I can't see him winning even if he does take the fight.
