Oh please Mr. Beterbiev save Adonis, please we beg you Anything to save your hero, Adonis ig. Adonis doesn't deserve that Kovalev beating so let's leave a guy with nine pro fights handle his business. :smoke.
Hilarious reading all these poster's defend Beterbiev by obfuscation over purse bids for mandatory contenders. None of that would even matter if he just dared to be great and accepted the fight. Even a loss in a competitve fight would do wonder for the guy. All you people are f#cked in the head if you support Team Beterbiev's decision.
I'm sure Beterbiev's 'adviser' Haymon has something up his sleeve and he's advised team Beterbiev not to take the fight yet. If anyone thinks Beterbiev is scared of Kovalev they're wrong, IMO. I'm a massive fan of both Kovalev and Beterbiev so it's not like I'm biased one way or another. Part of me really wants to see the fight because it's a superb match up between two absolutely savage punchers who have history and aren't exactly the best of friends, and another part of me doesn't because I really wouldn't know who to pull for if they did due to me being such a big fan of both of them. I suppose it would be a case of may the best man win.
Official response from Beterbiev's side: Apparently, Yvon Michel has stated that Beterbiev's trainer wants him to get in one fight before the Kovalev bout "because Beterbiev will be coming off of observing Ramadan" (meaning he hasn't done ANY workouts or training since his last fight). So Marc Ramsey doesn't want Beterbiev fighting Kovalev on November 28 because he's coming off Ramadan. This sounds like a tune-up basically. Michel says he's still angling Beterbiev for a Kovalev fight after that, but I think Beterbiev still loses. Kovalev's trainer and overall team is better. Ramsay just isn't that good of a trainer imo. So the fight will happen; it's just delayed. Kovalev will "crush his career before it starts" like he said and this discussion will be over. In closing, I can't really fault a guy who only has 9 Pro fights for trying to be fully geared up for his title shot. It's true that he's observing Ramadan, which I'm certain Duva and Kovalev's team was well aware of before they made their offer. The notion that either fighter is "scared" of the other is still pure BS. It sounds like we'll see the fight early next year.
Ramadan is over or soon to be over, Nov 28th was more than doable for Beterbiev with Ramadan recovery. It's just an excuse from his team. Frankly you're right, Beter needs more development and his team isn't as good, Kovalev has been getting dieting advice from Hopkins and came it lean and fresh against Mohammedi. For anyone who thinks Kov will drop the belt if this goes to purse bid they are fooling themselves. Purse bid is usually 80-20 in favor of the champ, it Haymon outbids HBO, Kov will come on PBC and kick their asses and pocket the money.
Yeah, Ramadan actually ended already. Team Beterbiev just didn't want to fight yet. They want a "tune-up" despite Michel still talking about an IBF eliminator. Something's not adding up now. :-(
