By my standard no. He held the lightly regarded WBO strap at light heavy, yes he beat Evander but one win against a great isn't enough otherwise Buster Douglas, McCall, Rahman etc would be HOF material. He was a good fighter when motivated though and clearly belonged at world class level in a strong era. But he simply didn't accomplish enough to be inducted.
Yes... Without a doubt... I'd argue that he gets in based off of the W over Holyfield alone, combine that with the fact that he came up for 175 after winning titles there to become THE lineal belt holder by beating the #1 HW in the game at the moment and you have an undeniable place for HOF.... I find it funny how Jones gets so much credit for beating Ruiz and winning his trinket belt, but across the board it seems like Moorer gets far less for winning the LINEAL title off of Holyfield. :huh
I agree. But there are a couple of differences that make that happen. NFL and MLB are national leagues and have only one title. Stars in those leagues will probably be known by most Americans, but far less worldwide. Boxing is worldwide and has dozens of titles. Also 5 get inducted every year wich is asking for watering down in quality.
Hard call. Right now I would say no. But in a low time he might get in. Losing to an older Foreman, and getting blaasted out by Tua in one round work against him. Best 5 wins are likely: Holyfield Cooper ( in a war ) Botha Alex Shultz Alex Stewart
