David Tua versus Jim Corbett

In terms of resume, it is an absolute mismatch in favour of Corbett.

Head to head it is harder to say, but I suspect that Tua could find a way to lose.

 

Tua would comatose him with the first power shot he landed.

 

Prety much.

Either you think that boxing has evolved, and Tua prevails despite the gulf in class, or you are not prepared to assume that based on the available evidence, and you pick Corbett.

 

I think it's pretty clear to anyone who has eyes that the sport has evolved from those early days.

 

I don't, so it obviously isn't so clear.

 

i could pick either man and it would have **** all to do with evolution.

tua looks better on film(imo, they're obviously very different fighters) and has a lot of physical advantages but corbett is proven over longer distances.

if it goes much past 15 i'd take corbett by ref/corner stoppage, if it ends before that then it's a tua ko. (unless it's an excessively small ring and tua just leans on and wrestles him till corbett is the exausted one)

Bullsh*t.

Corbett's resume is highlighted by defeating an old, sick alcoholic in his FINAL competitive bout, a man that who tho great in his day, had survived two comas and a broken arm AND who drew the color line. Second and third are tiny Charlie Mitchell in his FINAL fight and tiny Kid McCoy. Outside of that he has a draw with an injured Peter Jackson.


Tua never drew the color line nor relied on having his victim's supposed greatness bolstered by drawing the color line. He KO'd FOUR champs, ex or future, and beat a good selection of dangerous, full-sized heavies, and took on a guy in Ibeabuchi who is ****ogous to Jackson in that very few folks wanted to get into the ring with him.

For me, it isn't close. It's Tua by a country mile, both on paper and in the ring.

 

Corbett loses his head after a vicious short left hook of Tuas that he aimlessly waltzes right into.This fight doesn't make it out of round one.Unless we pretend that Corbett beefs up and aquires modern defensive skills this fight is another lopsided comparison.

Imagine if even with all his skills Lewis was 200 pounds ,do you really think he would beat Tua then?Now imagine 188 or so less skilled Corbett fighting a 5'10 230 plus bulldozer...he might as well jump into a water filled with piranhas?
