Watt's but they're all miles off. Joe Gans and Sam Langford are the top two by some distance. Then Henry Armstrong would be third, I would have Benny Leonard fourth and Ray Robinson rounding off the top five, with Ezzard Charles in close contention. Sugar Ray Leonard, Ali, Arguello, Mayweather and Tyson are way off. Duran isn't way off, though.
Watt was an infinite x greater and better fighter than the other pundits, too. WBC world lightweight champion when there were only TWO world titles (WBC, WBA), but he also held The Ring lightweight title! He beat awesome fighters like former and future world champions Hernandez and O'Grady, and Howard Davis Jr who was considered a better talent and better fighter than Sugar Ray Leonard. He also troubled Ken Buchanan like nobody Duran-aside, in a different manner to Duran; Duran's head movement on the front foot bothered Ken, whereas Jim was a thinking southpaw who manipulated distance with his feet very well; sliding back an inch or two to take sting off of shots or sliding back a few inches to evade. And he fought a genuine great in Arguello of course, and European champ Charlie Nash had just beaten Buchanan, of course! Grossly underrated, Jim Watt.
Some of their choices are laughable, all great fighters but Jack Johnson, Tyson, Arguello and Mayweather don't belong in the top 5 at all.
Well a poster above has rightly said how great Jim Watt was and I remember watching a fight were Arguello in turn totally outclassed Jim watt Something I've remembered to this day as Watt himself was a great champion That's why I've put Arguello in my own list Admittedly I only saw what he did to Watt
Yeah I really like him. I wonder if - as he isn't working for Sky - he can be a bit more free with what he's saying opinion wise
Good points. I've always liked Watt, and not because I grew up with his commentaries for ITV 20-plus years ago. He's always been an articulate, thoughtful down-to-earth guy who has that insight only an ex-fighter can give. He's been working alongside a complete idiot for a few years now, but Jim Watt as a pundit and co-commentator has always been quality.
i don't know if he was the best ever as how do you compare a defender to a striker, but there are loads of full matches pele played in on film, there's a lot just on youtube. you could have found that out in less time than it took to write the post.
Makes me laugh how weird it is, soon as Mayweather does one they try and make a **** load of articles on their lists. Morons, nobody cares.
come on he missed out ray robinson . put leonard no1 . no way should he be that. no way any on his list were ahead of srr
