What do you think it means? Jesus...

You throw the jab and the hook - it's all done in one motion. Like a 1-2 but quicker.

All due respect here, because I do like your threads when they are done in a fantasy style/questions about fighters, but this is silly, IMO.

I think that's a pretty legitimate question and it's good to hear someone ask something about the technical side of boxing, pretty rare on the forum.

Here is a video explaining hooking off the jab:

If you jab and force your opponent into a tight gaurd, this can give an opportunity to punch round the side of his gaurd with the hook.

Can also be slipping their jab and countering with a hook, though not the traditional meaning.

    That video explains nothing.

It's not the best video or demonstration, but he's right in saying hooking off the jab can be used to change angles. Watch any Guillermo Rigondeaux or Mario Kindelan fight for evidence.

You throw the jab out and then add a hook right afterwards, providing its a clever move to do so obviously

Just watch Wlad Klitchko he is the best at it,which is why he almost always hurts anyone he hits with it,just like he did with Peter who he nearly k.od with it.

It can't be done...it's a myth...I tried it once and couldn't do it and that's all the proof you need to know that it's not a real thing. Next question.

yes, and the hook can disorientate them a bit and set them up for a potentially lethal right hand shot

To throw it properly you need to take a half step left immediately after the jab for leverage.
I practiced it so much was second nature to me.

    ha! I love it.

just like someone said earlier, practice by jabbing and half way back in the recoil you re-execute but turn it into a hook. that's the technique. to practice the timing (which is similar to a double jab) play with 1-1, 1-1, 1-3, repeat over and over and over again.

to work it into a strategy, observe what your man does with your first jab inside of a double jab combination. example, if you find him reaching too far to catch your first jab then draw it out with 1-1, 1-1, and use your 1-3 to get around that reaching defensive hand. example number two, using your double jab you notice that he likes to double slip (inside-outside). you can use your hook after he slips inside your first jab.

once you have those down, remember to practice what you're going to do after the 1-3 (put a straight power behind it, or slip off to the lead side, use a pivot when you throw the hook, etc).
