The Rock vs Smoking Joe, both about the same height,Frazier slightly bigger, faster,The rock slightly tougher more durable, equal stamina...Does Frazier out work the harder puncher, and who would have the better chin here? Its a 50/50 fight for me on this one.
I love this match up,,,i don't see Rock getting rid of Joe quickly as Foreman did, I see this as a real war to the end,,,,As a fan I would pick Rocky but yes this is really a 50/50 close fight to me :bbb
'Era man here'. Tho I've always mentioned that this bout might be close enough in years to warrant consideration. This is one of those fights where I want a ringside seat with 2 beers and two 'dogs'! Quarry and Joe come to mind. I don't think Rock would be as prone to cuts as Jerry but would, perhaps, bring more power to the table as Jerry's power punching IMO was a tad overrated (he wore opponents down). Plus, I don't think the Rock was as prone as Jerry to any serious bleeding. However, Joe would land that left hook and stop the Rock in his tracks(maybe evening dropping him) but Rock could build a round per round body attack, head attack that could reach Joe and slow him a bit. Quite simply, I don't know about this one but IMO it would have been one for the ages. :good
well I had the match up given to me by another poster, heres his canvas to paint what he thinks may happen...I said a bit on the other thread so...I think I agree with yours. On the bleeding though Frazier never cut ,rock did.
Best for Best, I go for Frazier the bigger guy with the heavier punch, the Frazier that beat Ali would have roughed up and beaten the Rock..
It might have been the best fight ever; I slightly favour Joe, but then I think about the trouble Bonavena gave him.
The Frazier that beat Ali was incredible. Not many men could have beaten him that night. Rocky isn't one of them. Just an incredible performance by Joe.
I'd lean towards Joe due to the fact that I believe he has the edge in both size and speed which is a tough combination to overcome. But its by no means a given. Marciano had the power to hurt Joe Frazier and the stamina and durability to hang in there with him for the long haul.
Prime Frazier breaks down Marciano over 6 rounds and then destroys him by the 8th or 9th. This is not a pick-em affair at all. I think a better match up for Marciano is Jerry Quarry and I'm not sure about that one at all. And this Rocky "slightly tougher, more durable" stuff compared to Frazier is absolute horse ****.
Interesting fight because whomever ends up on the back foot loses. I think it's as simple as that. I also favour Joe, who matches Rocky on intangibles (heart, will etc) has a little on him in size and is less likely to cut. This is a trench fight and I think Joe was just that bit better suited for it in this one.
