You can compensate for slow hands with great timing. Speed isn't the end all be all. Chavez Sr. had great timing. That's how he was able to beat Taylor (regardless of whether or not the stoppage was fair), and Camacho. It's also how Tszyu was able to stop Judah.
Handspeed is all relative. I think you guys are making the mistake of measuring against guys who had EXCEPTIONAL handspeed like Leonard, Jones, Robinson, Ali, Manny, Tyson, ect. Not too many guys in history like that. Chavez, for example, did not have slow hands. I think you need to watch more of a young Chavez if you think he was slow. He wasn't blazing fast, no, but he had deceptive quickness and awesome timing. The answer to this question comes down to Marciano and Foreman. Neither one of those guys had much handspeed, but made up for it with their booming power and great physical strength.
Froch was not a great fighter. Let's not overrate him. Very good, yes. But a cut below being considered great.
you could be very good but i still don't see how you could be great. very good does not equate to great
