Mayorga did the usual, let the guy punch him in the face to show that he could take it, but ultimately got KO lol
but not before dishing out some psychological warfare on Mosley! that 6th round flurry by el Matador was eye-opening, but that body shot was just too much. For 6 rounds these guys put in some work. I will say that Mosley looked sharp in there, not sure who he can fight at this point but he definitely can still go at his age. As for Mayorga, the unpredictability is still there, the showmanship is still there, the heel persona is alive and kickin. After that battle, surely Ricardo deserves himself a nice post-fight cigarette and some quality time with his best friend Daniel Ortega.
Mayorga is seriously a joke now. He should retire and clearly his wife feels the same way, she was crying after the 3rd round. He looked like a fat drunk in there. He was atleast funny to watch for the showboating, but he was getting slapped in there, and his body is too flabby to take body shots now.
I didn't see the fight tonight, but Mayorga was never exceptional when it cam to taking body shots. He always seemed to absorb shots upstairs with far better stride. :smoke
Mayorga was blocking body shots effectively early in the fight with tucked elbows. In the post fight interview a reporter asked Shane why he didn't go to the body early in the fight and the answer is that Mayorga blocking style was confusing Mosley. In fact Mayorga blocked one of Shanes left hook power attempts early in the fight, then proceeded to taunt Shane about it. That type of showmanship made for some memorable moments and I thought that this fight was worth every penny. Mayorga is no joke in there, the guy still has some good offense, and blocking style is effective. What was amazing about this fight was the dynamic punches that Mosley was landing which ended up changing the course of the fight. Mosley landed some incredibly athletic lunging punches, including a combo in the 6th where Mayorga evaded right hook but Mosley followed it up by lunging in with a hard left straight. These guys definitely earned their paycheck and I was thoroughly entertained by this match.
