I don't think so. Lewis does not have the chin to hang in with Vitali over 12 rounds and can't win a war like Vitali can.

If they fought 10 times I see Vitali winning 8 or 9 times out of 10.

YES, :zzz And his brother too..

Get real cuts are a part of the sport, that's like saying could a prime Roger Clemens strike out a prime Alex Rodriguez without throwing any split finger fast*****:nut

Lewis, Vitali threads are getting old and as redundant just like the Tyson threads:-(

A better thread question would be, " could Vitali hang with a prime Lewis?" Lennox was 37 years old, off for a year and a career high 256 lbs yet still found a way to win. Cuts or not. He was taking klitschkos best for 6 rounds and firing back with shots that were doing damage. Five years earlier a fresh Lewis might not have needed to open a cut.

If we are talking that night? No I had lewis winning one round,Vitali was gaining momentum and was staggering Lewis, had lewis not pull the 2 week notice trick he would have certainly lost this fight,a rematch would have been another great slug fest but vitali would not have let him off the hook like he did in the second round..a more experienced Vitali is better than any version of lewis, who is more talented but vitali has that awkwardness and chin to give him problems.

    Dear God,

Please take us back in time and force a Lewis-Klitschko rematch so that we can stop having to read these threads for the rest of our lives.

    Sincerely,

    Vince

P.S. - Nice work on the Grand Canyon...it's beautiful.

Bottom line is Lewis is in the Boxing HOF, the only way Vitali Klits gets in if he buys a day pass, Lewis had a way better career and didn't need to take off 4 years due to his brittle body..:deal

Just to show how much better Lewis was he took the 03 fight on 2 weeks notice at almost 38 and still made VK'S face look like it went thru a meat grinder, if VK had been allowed to fight on he would have lost his eye, Lewis was an ATG, VK wasn't..

Tell me which fighter's career would you have rather had:huh case closed, i think it's pretty obvious...

Lewis was the one gaining momentum. I wouldn't even say gaining since Lennox took over from the end of the 4th round until the stoppage. He had Vitali hugging him the last 10 seconds of the 6th.

Lennox was going strong and hurting him, he would dropped the hammer down soon.

Both guys looked spent, I mean damn, superheavyweights with that pace!? But yeah, Lennox was about to close the show and lower the boom.

What evidance is there of that? The last round they fought in 6..Lewis was getting out boxed. He landed the biggest shot but it was Vitali who continued landing the bigger ones and hit lewis with a combo backing him into the ropes up until the last 30 seconds left...vitali did tire with 10 seconds before the bell....but unless you think that ten seconds is an indication of him losing or his overall dominance in that fight is your call...I think vitali would have won if it had gone 2 more rounds,if not than the cut would be the deciding factor as it would have got worse, but that's the only reason I see him losing that night.

C'mon man. It is fine to disagree but you seem to always favor the latest shinest SHW.
An indication f bias is that you seem to believe that Vitali would have won even WITH the cut, huh?

First of all, it is unlikely any fight after the early 20th century would be les comtinue after the 6th,
And don't you think that the cut would have gotten wors & forced a stoppage?

Anyway given age, inactivity, rust & weight...And looking at him fight, I cannot see either Klitcho winning more than 3 out of 10 prime for prime against Lewis.
    Max.

That version of Lewis, that night? Hells no.

Vitali was pounding the starch out of him, and it was only when his vision was starting to go that Lewis started landing shots of any consequence. If he hadn't got his face mangled he would probably have stopped Lewis.

THAT SAID, what Lewis said was also true. He was out of his prime and woefully out of shape. At the end of round 6 it looked like he was about to have a heart attack.

BUT, Lewis has to be given credit on another point too. He's been criticized for having a shaky chin, but that night, out of shape or not, he was solid. People remember the fight for the tremendous uppercut Lewis landed on Vitali, who kept on fighting. I also remember it for the series of shots that Vits landed on Lewis, who didn't go down and hung in there for the win. Props.

Prime Lewis vs that Vitali? Honestly, a toss-up. A younger Lewis may have had a weaker chin, but he would have been faster with much greater stamina. I would pick Vitali, but I'm biased towards him, so I can fully understand other folks picking a prime Lewis.
