It's strange to see how many fellers here dislike Kelly Pavlik...

Pavlik is a great fighter who is fun to watch. A classy boxer whose two encounters with Taylor were a feast for our sore eyes.

However,the same cant be said about some of his fans here on esb.

I for my part dont mind watching his fans hype him up,but exaggerated statements that he is already a living legend,an all time great,and that he would beat whoever is front of his fists with great ease is totally out of proportion.

Pavlik had two great fights with Taylor.Therefore he rightfully has the nr.1 position at middle weight.Nevertheless,he still has to prove that he is a truly outstanding fighter.After all he may have Taylor's number and be brutally stopped by Abraham or easily outboxed by Sturm.I dont think so,but Pavlik still has to prove that he will be a long reigning king at the castle.
Apart from Taylor he hasnt really faced top opposition.

Zertuche,Zuniga,and so on are all decent fighters,but so are Spada,Oral,and ..............and....................... .
Pavlik's victim Miranda is a totally overrated crude banger whose claim to fame is that he was able to go 12 rounds with an severely injured Abraham who fought with a shattered jaw for more than 8 rounds.
I would love to watch Pavlik take on some good names like Sturm or Sylvester before he fights Abraham.
Anyway! It does not matter how well he does his job inside the ring there will always be guys who find a fly in the ointment. I dont want to sound like one of them.

 

Pavlik can't control what people say about him. He has a laid back confidence and a willingness to fight and to fight anyone. I don't think even he would claim to be the best P4P. Seems like many boxing fans perfer the egomaniacal boasting of guys like Jones and Mayweather, even though they avoid the most interesting challenges. To each their own I guess.

 

stop the hating on pavlik, he fights like a warrior..doesn't quit as you saw in the taylor fight. Yes he hasn't face that much competition yet as he only had miranda and taylor(twice) but point is i see no reason to hate him just because of some ESB posters. Just like there is no reason to hate gamboa for being overhype with only a 9-0 record.

Put the hate aside, pavlik isn't cocky like most fighters i knew who deserve to be hated cause of their actions. pavlik has done no such thing and he's even a nice guy and a humble person.

I don't agree though with comments like he beats everyone from 160-175 and would beat the likes of hagler and such..but where did those come from? Did they came out of pavlik's mouth? No, just some posters on ESB. So stfu with the hate, i can see hate of pac just because of a few posters you very well know of. And you would just want them to shut up but hate on the person is a different story.

 

I don't think there is much hate for Pavlik, just for a minority of his nuthuggers. Sometimes a realistic appraisal of his abilities might be misconstrued as hating, i.e in a proposed matchup with Kessler he usually comes off worse and some posters are often pretty vitriolic about that. I think the majority of posters recognise that KP 's is a very good but not elite fighter, its just we all tend to notice the extremists more as they shout louder.

 

He beat Taylor, that really pissed me off but I can't hate someone who brings action and excitement to boxing. Good fighter, can't wait to see more of him.

I figure it's really stupid to dislike a fighter because of their fans or the media reaction to them. You can dislike them for what they say, what they do, what they don't say and what they don't do and for their demeanour, but not for their fans or for what commentators say about them, truly.

 

i dont get it either just like i didnt get all the Taylor hate.

 

Laugh now...cry later. You speak the truth & this is the thanks you get! I've toned down my enthusiasm, but still one of his biggest supporters. And I didn't just jump on the bandwagon. I've been keeping an eye on Kelly for 4 yrs now. I recogized his terrific punching technique a long time ago.

 

JT got the negative stuff because of questionable decisions that went his way too often. Thats what I like about Pavlik...he makes no doubt about it.

 

Kelly is probably the most likeable guy in boxing, works hard and knocks people out and at the end of the day he is pretty humble about it. I dont understand how you could hate him. Now hate the nuthuggers I can understand that, I have a similar situation with Calzaghe.
