How many distractions and problems in Tysons life in 1990 led to the Douglas k.o

I'm clutching at nothing. I refer to nonce cases as nonce cases, because that first and foremost is what they are. What they do or did for a living is irrelevant.

That they are monitored and kept on a register is good enough for me to justify the position I take on the subject.

 

"This is a peak time to beat Mike Tyson." Those words were offered up by Frank Bruno in a press conference before their fight.
It was obvious to a lot of people back then that Tyson's life was out of control and that someone sooner or later would capitalise.
Bruno just wasn't good enough.
Douglas, for one crazy, mad night, was.

Losing Rooney played a massive role in that I feel. If people can claim Lewis and Wlad became better fighters with Steward, then I think a pretty good argument can be made that Tyson became a worse fighter when Rooney left.

Rooney was one of the hand picked men from Cus D'amato's stable and he wasn't afraid of pulling Mike up.

Even when Tyson was in his 'prime', Kevin Rooney would still stop him on Tyson's mistakes, it could be wrong head movement or throwing the combination wrong, his job was to keep Tyson in prime fighting form and to execute everything he learned from the age of 15 the proper way that only Kevin Rooney, Atlas, and Cus understood. The other trainers Tyson had were actually detrimental to him and his techniques, let alone adequate.

Steven Lott was also someone important who supported Mike during his best years before King and his army forced them out.

Tyson always had distractions, read his book - he chased women, drunk, partied all the time. (He won his first title whilst suffereing an STD FFS!) the difference was when he was the best, he had in his corner the people that developed him into the fighter that won the world title.

 

Surely Douglas had a far bigger distraction given his maw had just died.

 

When Mike Tyson had his head in the right place, with all the right people in his corner and doing everything that he was supposed to do both in and outside the ring, it would have taken a truly exceptional heavyweight to beat him...

Tyson had problems in the head. generally mentally strong in the ring sure, but outside mentally not in a good place.

 

I would have thought it was pretty obvious Al. If a fighter is concentrating on his job, the last thing on HIS mind should be how many girls he can screw / grope, whatever, whether they like it or not.

In his case ( because he is a nonce case ) it was always the first thing on his mind, so he deserves no more sympathy than a dog that attacks a child.
