Not exactly. As adults? Steele was four months older.

Apostoli was 2x National Amateur Champion at middleweight which is why he was matched against a 100 fight veteran in his debut. He beat an old Divodi, lost to Steele then 6 months later beat Stuhley who was coming off a win over Vince Dundee, Swede Berglund who had just beat Bandit Romero twice and Babe Risko.

Between the two fights i would say Steele's win is more noteworthy with him 'beating a better version of the opponent' than Apostoli's over an injured Steele.

Best MW titlist? Do you mean best reign or best resume at the weight overall, best fighters in a H2H / all-time sense? Yarosz and Overlin may not have had good reigns but H2H and overall resume at 160 they're among the best imo, top 5. Probably over Apostoli unless you're solely rating reigns.

Ya this seems accurate as possible considering the information. It was definitely injured in the Overlin fight and progressively got worse, who knows when it was actually fractured though.

Some easy math as it applies to Overlin, Yarosz, Gorilla Jones.
Overlin admitted Yarosz was his daddy after two tail kickings.
Gorilla was called a far superior middleweight to Yarosz by Yarosz own manager Ray Fouts.
Ray stressed Jones record was misleading as he was not always allowed to fight, the lot of many a black fighter in the dirty thirties.
BTW when Steeles manager Dave Miller dropped dead shortly before the Overlin title defense an honorary pallbearer was one Francis Carbo of NYC
Maybe old Dave should be exhumed??

not following you at all, I just saw a post I had something to say on, it wasn't too disrespectful I think, it's just that you say one thing on one thread but then that same thing is fine for another fighter you like. I do not doubt the guy was fouled brutally but when it's an Australian he has to be "faking" it in your mind.

Forums ? plural ? what are you on about ? I only know of one forum where you are and that's here, your little kingdom where you and your gatekeeper McVey reside

I will look again - I honestly have not seen the fouls. I read one account of one of the films being shown in French cinemas and of Thil being booed when he goes down because there's no foul. But I can't remember where - could have been an American source.

Yeah, as a fully developed fighter.

His pro debut was against a professional loser who had dropped seven in a row.

It's possible that Apostoli was fully formed at 6-0; lack of footage makes it impossible to argue the contrary. But it would be the first itme in history that it has occured, to my knowledge.

I'll stick with my original position: Apostoli got considerably better.

Yarosz beat 6 of the men on this list, so his ranking should be pretty high. Beat Dundee 3 times, Overlin twice, Jeby, Risko, Brouillard, Krieger. Plus wins over Billy Conn and the middleweight Archie Moore.

Head to head I'd pick him to beat ANY of the guys on that list.

Have you some kind of fixation? You come back after flouncing off in high dudgeon because some disagreed with you ,[ not having been missed by the way,] and immediately start ripping into people. Why don't you start again without the childish asides? Last chance to behave like an adult. Why not take it?:think

There isnt a good copy of the second fight on YT but this one, which isnt great either shows Broulliard landing a blatant and hard low blow after having been warned several times already for various foul tactics.

The first punch? The left hand?

That looks beltline to me, but I can't get a freeze frame that is anything but a blur.

As near as I can see that punch is ok. The left line in the above picture is the belt-line the middle of the circle is the point of contact as near as I can capture it. At worst I think it's debatable.

My instinct was that it was ok too, but this is a difficult call to make based upon the footage.
