He needs to go back to the drawing board, maybe switch trainers... Not retire. He lost a competitive fight to a world class SMW, nothing in that fight suggested he wasn't in Jacks league and couldn't beat him on a good night. For a little perspective on Grove's career, just compare him to someone like Price and how his future as a contender is looking. Groves is still in the mix...
I agree. Seems a bit overkill to retire due to losing another world title fight in what was a competitive fight
Groves should go back to Booth. His next fight will be interesting, If I was Degale I wouldnt give him the shot. Groves should face the winner of Smith/Fielding. Think Smith wins an then beats Groves also BTW. Also peeps get off Terrys back please, its just childish an ruining a decent site.
Georges two biggest weaknesses at elite level are not being tough enough, and his engine. I actually think fighting at LHW with the correct training his engine would be fine, though that would make his other major weakness an even bigger issue.
Sat night is another major setback for groves although i dont think hed finished i dovthink that the next major fight is crucial to his future. A move back to booth would be a great start. He earned good money from the froch fights and if hes using that money wisely that slone might be taking his hunger
Groves has got plenty of time to get back in the mix but he needs to go back on the path that led him to contend for Froch's titles. Looks like hes had it too easy and I'm worried hes going to decline further if he doesnt try & change things.
I do like paddy Fitzpatrick as a guy, and I don't think there's anybody here can honestly say, hands on heart that anything he says to George between rounds is not correct. I think Georges biggest issue is conditioning. He's not scientific enough in his approach. There was videos out with kell brook before he had his first injury that cancelled the Alexander fight two years ago. Brook was doing his strength and conditioning in some college lab up in sheffield, the doctors would take blood tests from him every few minutes to check his oxygen levels. All extremely scientific. Even Frampton does similar. He's been sent to some other than laboratory place to check what each food type does to his system, that way he knows what he should be eating during training camp and at what times. George employs an ex marine, who in all honesty is not s qualified as these strength and conditioning guys that work in the top sports science universities. If Groves went down that route, and his conditioning didn't improve, then I'm afraid there's nothing he could do, but at least he covered the bases.
I remember watching world class fighters go 15 rounders at a fast pace back in the early 1980s, often. None of them needed to consult scientists or train in a laboratory.
Groves just isn't good enough. He became overrated largely due to the fact that Froch is grossly overrated. Groves should perhaps give it another try, get some wins together, target a rematch with DeGale.
