Tex Cobb vs Shannon Briggs

I would not disagree. Briggs is far better actually but Cobb had that granite chin. And you know, that sucker had good stamina too.
Cobb was slow and unimaginative but he had a fair punch on him. Larry thrashed him of course but he lost to Dokes by majority decision and to Norton by split decision. Close fights.
Cobb would continue to apply pressure and his workrate and chin makes things interesting.

 

Some of you are forgetting that before Cobb burned himself out...got his brains pureed by Holmes...and at the end of the road, fell to Dee Collier,...nobody blasted him out.."in one round?" if Botha could suck it up, surely Cobb would do the same. The big, asthmatic lunatic would have gassed himself after 2 rounds vs Cobb, who had a stellar chin until the very last few fights of his.

 

Briggs be decision. Way to big for Tex. Tex wouldn't be able to hurt him and visa versa.

 

Tex was a boxer first then he went into movies. Its amazing how people talk about him & don't know a thing about him. He said to me one day " I have the best defence ever , my face I stick it out there & let em hit it when they get tired I take over & knock em out" LOL Tex always said that the only man that ever really hurt him, that was Earnie Shavers he said every punch Earnie hit him with shook him from head to toe

 

If Shannon didn't get the early knockout, he still possessed the ability to slime his way through a fight. He had plan B, to slime through a fight until an eventual tko (Mercer and Liakovich), or plan C, to sputter his way to a decision not counted as a loss (Foreman and Botha). These facets of his game would prove too much for Cobb if Shannon failed to get the early stoppage. Cobb's could only hope for a controversial draw.

 

Who worth a damn has Briggs ko'd??? Or even beaten for that matter? Liakhovic was a last second, come from behind miracle. Other than that, who?

I see Cobb outlasting a punched out, tired Briggs.

 

I predict low viewership numbers and an even lower attendance figure. This is a fight not many people would want to see, including me.

 

He got dropped by Gregg in his previous fight and it was a meaningful knockdown. Cobb was wearing down at this point.

 

Briggs wins by decision, even tho Im not a lover of Shannon.

 

Ugly fight. And I mean a really, really ugly fight. You have two big behemoths who are physically strong, but sorely lack in skills and lack the speed/snap to really make it count. Both were very durable and tough, so it likely goes the distance outside of a freak 1/100 punchers chance.

Their lack of finesse, timing, and ring IQ means we will be treated to an exciting bout for the first 4 rounds with lots of heavy bombs landing. Both guys trade knockdowns and the crowd is wild. But then it eventually becomes a sloppy barroom brawl from rounds 5-8. By round 9, Briggs is completely gassed and throwing one punch at a time hoping for a hail Mary while Cobbs strength has been sapped from all of Briggs body shots and early round action. Cobb is outlanding but not doing any damage at all. It might resemble Cobb vs Shavers with a bit of Briggs vs Mercer.

Rounds 11-12, both guys are completely spent, throwing half assed arm punches and occasional desperate wild hayemakers. Now it starts to resemble the atrocious Otto Wallin vs Dominick Brezeale fight. They'd lean on each other, gasping for air, have some sloppy exchanges, shove, wrestle, clash heads, trip and fall on each other, etc. Crowd is utterly disgusted and annoyed. By the final bell, even the judges have stopped giving a f#*@ and are glad it's over. It would probably either be a split decision or a draw and nobody would care to remember the verdict.

 

Let's not forget that prime Briggs gave Lewis some very anxious moments. Not sure if Cobb could survive that version of Shannon.
