his only chance will be if he has a very very good chin and is able to stay on his feet once Joshua lands, i am hoping he can at least test AJs chin though.
He definitely has the punch power and I suspect his chin will be good. Anybody dismissing the guy based on Cornish and Johnson isn't thinking straight. No way is he being blasted out like that.
As long as AJ doesn't get sloppy or dragged into a brawl, he should have whyte on the end of a jab for a couple of rounds before stopping him mid rounds. There fight in the amateurs AJ was still very green, I seem to remember the ring being tiny for that fight.
The amateur fight has to be looked at in context. Both were new to boxing, Whyte was 22, AJ 20 but Whyte had an extensive back ground in kickboxing and even an MMA fight prior to switching to boxing. The fight was also in a tiny ring, a bigger ring will now give AJ an advantage. But the fight showed Whyte had the power to hurt AJ so Whyte has a punchers chance. But AJ is a better fighter now and benefited from fighting at a high level in the amateurs which Whyte was denied due to being stripped of his amateur boxing status which forced him to turn pro which is why AJ and Whyte never fought again in the amateurs. Whyte will step into the ring believing he can win and will be Joshua hardest test to date. But Joshua is the more experienced and refined boxer now and Whyte is too easy to hit and this will cost him. AJ will stop him before the 6th.
looking at their respective fights on Saturday night I see another easy win for AJ.....they look like to different classes of fighter to me! Still its got to be a good one to watch with their history and well...Whyte seems decent enough. But he looked easy to hit the other night against a fat cruiserweight...AJ will hit a LOT harder. AJ KO/TKO inside 3 rounds yet again!
50/50 fight, both have faced similar quality opponents, one has sky covering his every move, the other is trying to get Sky to cover his every move, so one has as much too lose as the other has to gain
Agreed, but look at the difference in how they compared aganist their respective opponents this weekend. Whyte's win was largely to do with power and (lack of) chin, and he showed some vulnerability against someone who Joseph Parker took longer to finish but did so like it was part of the plan and he was running a clinic in sticking to game plans. Joshua just looked like he was fighting someone who wasn't on his level. I wasn't sure before this fight, but I'm giving this fight to Joshua ~80:20. I watched an interview with Tyson Fury last night, and one of his comments in regards to Joshua versus Whyte was that back in the Amateur days Christian Hammer beat the guy who beat Fury yet in pros Fury beat hammer convincingly. Amateurs and Pros are different worlds, ignoring the fact that a lot can change over a few years.
DW's shoulder problem is a real concern for him, if he can't employ the jab properly then he's defo no chance. Joshua is more athletic and has the faster hands, Whyte is going to need that jab to keep that at bay. He does have longer arms, and the amateur fight you can see that was the basis.
