Interesting parallel between Ali vs Liston I and Ali vs Foreman

    - Both 10 years apart

    - Both fights were for the heavyweight championship of the world

    - Both Liston and Foreman were pretty much, from a media standpoint, clones. Both powerful, both perceived as large destructive monsters who were unbeatable

    - Ali was the underdog in each fight

    Anyone else notice interesting comparisons? In both times when Ali won the championship, the champion was a destructive power-puncher.

    The first Liston fight was certainly no fix but it was closer than a lot of people remember. A mesmerizing performace by Ali but Sonny's work went largely unnoticed. The scorecards tell a different tale, with one judging have Liston up by a point, one having Ali up by a point, and the other having it as a draw. Still wonder whether that shoulder injury was genuine.

    Second fight was definitely a fix.

    I don't think it is earthshaking news that both Liston-Clay I and Foreman-Ali have been widely discussed as being crooked fights.

    I tend to think Liston-Clay was a case of Liston underestimating Clay, not training and entering the fight with a bad shoulder. He thought he would dispose of Clay in a couple of rounds.
    Ali-Liston II was definitely a dive.

    Foreman-Ali was possibly a fraud. Foreman still claims he was drugged by his trainer going into the fight. It is certainly possible. It would have been ridiculously easy to have done and it is consistent with the course of the fight. The trainer, **** Saddler immediately went to work for Ali after the fight.

    I give it 50/50 as being rigged.

    All the fights were legitimate.

    Ali won the first fight because Liston was a dumb slugger with no footwork. Jersey Joe Walcott testified the second fight was real, the punch was brutal.

    And if you watch the clip, you'll see Liston gets up and is ready to fight. Foreman wasn't good enough for Ali.
