Klitschko is NOT dominant because of his size!

This is a myth that needs busting. His size is NOT why he's dominant.

The #2 Heavyweight in the world is probably Alexander Povetkin, who is only 6''2 (average height for a H.W). Ruslan Chagev is in the top 10 and he's 6''1 with a decorated amateur career. Hell David Haye was one of the best heavyweights around, with Mike Tyson remarking that not many other current heavyweights can beat him aside from Klitschko - Haye was 6''1 (not 6''3) and 210lbs.

Some of Klitschko's opponents are of his size; Wach was taller, Tony Thompson was virtually the same size. Pulev was 6''4 and a half, that's HALF AN INCH smaller than Wlad!

Klitschko is dominant because of his SKILL. He won an Olympic Gold Medal...you don't win Olympic Gold Medals because of size, you need considerable amounts of ring-craft to do that.

It's why David Haye could beat Valuev and Harrison so easily yet got beat by Wlad. Wlad's size is not why he wins, it's his skill.

Of course Klitschko is not dominant because of his size alone - if that was the case, then every other tall boxer would be very successful, as you have pointed out.

However, him being so tall does play a very big role. If Klitschko was 6"2, like Povetkin, I don't think he would even be a champion. Maybe a contender or a WBA-beltholder at some time, I don't know.

IMO, the reason for Klitschkos success is that he is a tall, very athletic boxer WHO KNOWS HOW TO USE HIS SIZE. Many tall fighters aren't very athletic or agile and don't know how to make use of their size.

Klitschko is very good at 'fighting tall', and I think that is due to the training of Emmanuel Stewart - who had also successfully trained other tall fighters like Lennox Lewis and Tommy Hearns. If 'fighting tall' is considered a skill, then yes, Klitschko is skilled - but he wouldn't be if he wasn't so tall. Understand?

Klitschko wins his fights by keeping his opponents at the end of his jab - they can't reach him. He is tall -> has long arms -> has great reach. He also uses footwork to keep them out of reach. Once an opponent manages to get into mid-range, or close-range, he immediately ties them up - he grabs and holds, and pushes his opponents down - and he can do that easily because he's so much bigger and taller. Let's face it, Klitschko has close to no infight skills (maybe one can argue that he doesn't need them anyway). Compare that to a tall guy like Lennox Lewis who could do both - fight tall and at close range (he beat Vitali with his infight skills). Klitschkos punching power also plays a role of course.

You have a point, but Manny Steward is dead now. I don't think another tall fighter can really ever use the Klitschko formula without direct training from Manny.

Fury has tried it and he sucks at it.

Without his size he can't jump on guys backs , which is what wins him fights , so his size contributes everything to his success.

If it wasn't for his size , he couldn't have beat Povetkin.

When he can't use size to foul people , he mauls , grabs, bear hugs and bores in with two handed fist pumps a la Pulev

He grew up illiterate? Where did you get that? Very unprobable in former Soviet Union.
He grew up poor, yes, by western standards. But not poorer than the majority of people in former Soviet Union. His father was a career military, they had enough to live.

I think he is a very intelligent person outside of the ring, good (not exceptional) ring IQ too, but he still got his PHD because of boxing.

True size does help, if you are long you fight long, but his technique is top notch and power also, only thing is his safety pin in his head.
But he surely is the best guys that think he wins on his size alone will wake up once he KTFO Fury.

don't expect the usual suspect fck ******'s to wake up post a Fury ktfo, like 80% of Wlad's challengers they are in deep rem sleep land.

I used to think it was just size but it clearly isn't, fact is that tall guys who are actually good are quite rare, it seems that size has some diminishing returns after a certain point, boxers become sluggish and uncoordinated and the ones who do not are quite rare, but they turn out to be the best heavyweights.

Of course he's not dominant because of his size.

If size were everything, Valuev would be considered the GOAT.

His skill is obvious. He's an Olympic Gold Medalist, and had a solid amateur career.

He's also beaten other Olympic Medalists, such as Povetkin, Byrd, and Ibragimov.

He's also dominant because he knows how to USE his size, which is itself a skill.

    Of course he is

Valeuv could have beaten anybody if he fought like Wlad did against Povetkin.
