The fight should have preferably happened sometime between 2008-2011. But it still had some relevance in 2015 especially given that they were the two highest rated fighters in the world weather one agrees or disagrees with that placement. If they hadn't fought at all your criticisms of Mayweather would have been that much more harsh. Assuming you've been following the scene over the past three years then you can make that comparison for yourself. I don't have a problem with them being ranked up there especially Mayweather. There wasn't a whole lot going on in the other divisions that should have made it the contrary. Of course the light heavyweight scene has been solid but with Kovalev and Stevenson not fighting each other its limited their status. Perhaps. But with Floyd's retirement you've just eliminated the best p4p fighter in the world from the ratings. GGG, Ward, Klitscko and maybe Kovalev are probably the only people who are clear standouts for me. Actually its pretty simple. Pound for pound ratings are determined by the impact that a fighter has had on his division or across multiple divisions if he's fought in them and the quality of opponents.. In an effort to simplify things a bit and using a generic and isolated comparison, who do you think is a better professional, Povetkin or Pacquiao? Which is more valuable, Wlad's win over Povetkin or Floyd's win over Manny? It really is that simple. And most people would choose the latter as being the more important victories. That's reasonable.
To further my point about the pound-for-pound ratings, now RING magazine (in the wake of Mayweather's retirement), have Andre Ward at #2 behind #1 Gonzalez. Andre Ward ?? Could it be an error. Makes absolutely no sense to rate Ward highly. It's been years since he had a meaningful win. http://ringtv.craveonline.com/ratings Maybe his people paid the RING to rate him. Or maybe, just maybe, the RING needs an American in there, good old fashion American bias.
Don't worry guys, this is just another sarcastic post in a long line of sarcastic posts from Big Red. How can you tell? The part where he said Money would be Whitaker. That should've gave away him trying to be the sarcastic/funny/witty guy he is
I think he was a great defensive fighter and had a few wins that I recognized his greatness, however how many great fighters did he fight and how many did he fight in their primes. He looked great vs Corales and Angel Manfredy and Hatton and Alvarez but none of them were great. He lost OK vs Pac, Cotto,Judah I think in his prime he would get stopped by a lightweight and Welterweight Duran. he had nothing to beat Hearns and Leonard would have stopped him. At lightweight he loses to B.Leonard,Duran,Armstrong, etc. Welterweight SRR, Basilio, and other would have beaten him but I still fit him into the top 10-15 ATG maybe higher, I have to look again closer.....Is Floyd done or is he going to try for one more easy, meaningless fight like Berto....would he chance to lose everything in a catch weight 156lb GGG fight $$$$$ ? if GGG gets past the next guy, i doubt it but suckers keep buying his fights, i protested the last one after years of being robbed by him....great boxer though and smart business man
the sad thing is Red was dead serious. Floyd would lose to Camacho, but beat Whitaker:think Granted Camacho was very good at 130 but that may have been Floyd's best weight.
