    Of course he is.

People just like using Slappy Joe's name to troll people, just like they did with Raymi.

Nobody really thinks Slappy Joe is a p4p ATG, that's absurd.

joe is a british ATG, just below Froch, the guy he ran from and whom made actual defences of the top three titles unlike joe.

    Legend

    1. a traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated.

    2. an extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field.

As for reason number 2, then yeah, he is a Legend.

You're right, Calzaghe shouldn't be mentioned alone the lines of Tyson and Lewis ...because he is LIGHT-YEARS better than those two.

    I don't remember Joe getting brutally KO'ED by a 40-1 underdog..even Will McIntyre wasn't a 40-1 underdog.

Joe didn't get KO'ED by ONE PUNCH twice.

In fact.. Give Joe about 3 more inches and about twenty pounds then, Calzaghe outbox those two quite handily.

Lewis and Tyson are Greats...Calzaghe is an ATG!

When did you start following Boxing 2010?

Anybody who knows ANYTHING about boxing knows that Calzaghe is a true ATG!

Maybe you should stick to watching Pac and Mayweather:deal fights.

This:good. His fans will tell you he is one of the greatest light heavies ever even though his resume at 175 consists of shot to ****e Jones and overrated at 175 Hopkins. His detractors call him "Slappy" even though iron chinned Hopkins couldn't deal with his workrate. The fact is he was a terrific fighter that A.Had an unbelievable workrate. B. Had great hand speed. C.Had very underrated footwork. D. Had a very good chin. E. Had a high boxing IQ.

And an unorthodox style. I enjoyed his career. He's in top twenty of the past 20 years, at least.

My vast knowledge of boxing goes back many generations.

I simply can't take Slappy Joe seriously when his best wins are against an injured Kessler(in which a green Ward easily beat in his first world title fight) and a 276 year old senior citizen in which he got a SD over.

Then there's the hilarious British stoppages and his defending of the worthless WBO belt for 10 years in the UK.. :rofl

He's grossly overrated by some, a little overrated by others; grossly underrated by some, and a little underrated by others yet. And then some, like myself, tend to right him just right.

In the end, average all that out, and I think he's "rated" right around where he ought be - at least on these boards where he is such a divisive figure.

Extreme fanatics tend to overrate their favorite fighters, but other than that, generally Calzaghe is not overrated.

He is still hated with passion by certain group of people though.

Edit: Like mentioned above, points of view are very divided on Calzaghe for certain reasons.

I like Calzaghe and he is a first ballot hall of famer. The world knows that, but the british on this forum seem to think he is an ATG, which he is not.

He is definitely top 3 super middle-weight but it would have meant a lot if he got off the wilder-style diet earlier.

Extremely overrated ..Now what he did at smw with title defenses got him in the HOF but who has he beat in their prime worth mentioning ?

Hopkins is the only na,e I can think of and he was in his 40's .
